Hello, could anyone offer any tips or tricks to help me make the forearm wood flush with the metal of my reciever? Im trying to finish up this semi-inletted stock and have almost got it, I just need to make the wood to metal fit but I cant seem to get it. The reciever is flat on the sides and rounded on the bottom, thanks!

I'm not really understanding the question here... what model of action is this? The standard process is to smoke the metal in a sooty candle flame and tap it into the wood. The soot will stick to the high spots, which are then cut down.

With a straight sided action this can cause little problems along the top inside edge as this wood gets compressed or cut out. If the barreled action has been bedded already, and my opinion is that it should be, and you are only doing the last little bit of clean-up it should be easy to see what needs to come down.

A couple tricks you might try if there is a little holiday in the wood along the edge would be to wet the wood on the inside only. It will swell an amazing amount and then retain quite a bit of the plumpness when it dries. You must let it dry for a long time after you do that, if there is any size to the missing chip and therefor the soaked area. Another idea is to simply fill it with epoxy when bedding or finishing and if it shows touch it up with a little paint.

If this doesn't help, give me a little more info please...
art

Thanks for the quick reply. I think the candle method you stated should work, this is my first stock and I dont know very much about it yet. The action is a savage 99, not a custom gun but I saw other stock questions here and thought I'd give it a shot.
