Just bought a Sako Forester Deluxe and wanting a gloss scope for it. 4x12x40 or 4x16x40

How much do you want to spend. I think Doug has a. Meopta 3.5x10x44 for 4 bills. I hear good things about that glass.

It isn't the brand, but the size to determine your preference. Gloss is the key, I don't know where you will find a decent gloss scope. I believe Leupold may still make a couple. There are still used scopes that will work for what you want. I think the 50 mm scopes are a bit large...

Yes I think 50mm is too big also.Looking for a 40mm.Need the higher magnification because of my old eyes.

I'm with shrapnel on the gloss. The only ones I know of are Leupold 6X, 3-9 UL EFR, and 3.5-10, from SWFA. Those may have to be ordered.

I had a 3-9 UL EFR on my old Browning Safari (small ring Mauser) for years and was happy. I went to a full size scope and had to change to medium rings. I'm not sold on that, so the little 3-9 may go back on it.

I never felt that I needed more Xs on a .243. YMMV.
