Well, once again, it looks like opening weekend in places around the state of Montana will be pushing 100 degrees for daytime temps. Be careful with meat preservation people. Get it off the critter, into the shade and off the mountain quickly. If you hunt solo, like me, do it as quickly and as safely as you can. Luckily, it's cooling down nicely at night. There's not much more satisfying than arrowing an elk at last light and then spending the night packing it out a couple of miles by yourself. Well, arguably having someone else pack it out for you or with you could be more satisfying; but, you know what I mean. Good luck all.
Yep.....it's hot !

Big massive 'high pressure heat dome' over all of the west

Another 8-9 days they say before it moves

Hate it......currently 92* & 12% H

At least nights cool down to 58 or so

Be careful in the heat!
Idaho's archery season just opened. We were in the hills trail riding over the weekend. The temps were close to normal live body temp. If you got one down, you'd have to head for town with it in a hurry.
Years ago my partner and I went moose hunting in eastern ID. On opening weekend, it was 92F. We hunted half of the day and went home. There's no way we could have saved the meat if we'd got one. We went back 10 days later and I shot a moose in 10" of snow.
My son and his buddy killed a nice 6 point bull 'in the hills' Friday evening. Boned him out and had him in the cooler within a couple hours. All Good. You have to have a plan be prepared when it's hot, but it's not impossible. Granted it's nicer to have all day and a high of 50 degrees to take care of a big bull, but that is not likely when the hunt ends on Sept. 25.
