Guys I'm running behind on posting this season as I've been dealing with a few issues boat related etc.
That said I finally got some cameras out yesterday. State of the woods assessment wasn't so good...no acorns again this year no beans planted this year so early season viewings are not possible in fields as corn is planted and it's rather stunted due to the extremely dry summer.
I'm limited on properties as I lost 2 last season so I'll be concentrating more on my lease and property that I killed railroad buck on last season.
I'm sure I'll find a few worthy bucks to chase and am looking forward to using the new Mathews V3X.
As picture come in I'll post them,so far just doe and a 4pt have come through on cams
It's still about a month before I get serious and start hunting hard so stay tuned...

We kept a boat on the Michigan side of Lk Michigan and I about died of envy when Tiara came out with the 38 Pursuit. I'm loving yours! Tiara makes a really nice boat.

Used to live in Toronto in the 80's the fishing was fantastic back then on Lake Ontario, big salmon and big trout. My father caught a 16 lbs brown trout there and we caught some pretty big Chinook as well.

In any case happy fishing on your beautiful boat and based on your deer pictures looks like you will have a blast Whitetail hunting this year as well, best of luck :o)

I set another camera in yesterday right in front of a stand and a hot scape and already tons of action

Thought about making some mock scrapes and pizzing in one today. Put a cam on one I whizz in.

I seen three deer and a bear this morning.

Good sit this afternoon I sat in same stand I killed my buck from last year
saw 3 doe, a spike watched a 5 pt grunt and make a scrape then had a nice 120'' 8pt pass right in front of me and hit the scrape the 5 pt had just made
I gave the 8 pt a pass

Back to property near my home this morning frosty and cold 29 degrees. I passed on an 8 pt that had short tines but was a big bodied deer and all rutted up
He came right in to a scrape 20 yds in front of me. Saw a 5 pt and that was it

I made an error in judgement this morning and instead of hunting the property near my home I changed my mind and headed to my lease

This buck showed up in front of both my stands this morning along with 4 other buck at one time or another and there was some chasing of doe going on

I did have 2 different 8pts pass below me on the lease the 1st looked like a shooter

Guy across tracks from my lease hit an 8 pt late yesterday and I got a call it ran on to my lease. I went this morning and helped him look but no luck seemed to be a muscle hit very little blood and the deer never beded.I hated having to tramps through my property I've stayed out of but felt it was the right thing and may need it reciprocated some day

Been real slow here too Dan. Ive been seeing deer but other than a couple rubs that appeared overnight you would have a hard time knowing it’s the end of October here. I’m headed to Ohio for 2-3 days. Hopefully I can fill a tag there and things will pick up when I get back.

Same thing I hear from my pards about my all days sits.

They say they can't do it. They hunt for a few hours in the evening and mornings then sit around the house.

Just as easy to stay up that tree as it is to sit at the house. Never killed anything from my couch!!

When they start moving about last week I only have about 2 weeks before that rut kicks in and things get very slow, may as well capitalize while I can.

Warm weather through middle of next week not good

Took the day off back at it tomorrow....cameras are starting to fire at dark spike and 4 pt dogging doe

Scrapes all over and rubs showed up this week much later than usual I’m predicting after thanksgiving on rut here

Another slow morning a doe and fawn saw a good 8pt across road when walking out
Did have some activity on my camera at property near my home small buck a couple doe the 8 pt I passed on last week and another good buck but that was still dark and in the distance so couldn't tell if it was the guy I'm after. And just now as I type another small buck at scrape in rear stand so maybe things are starting to tick back up?

Skunk this afternoon

Things are perking up I got a good amount of pictures last night with a little chasing and bucks starting to prowl.
Saw 3 buck this morning 2 smaller buck a spike and 5 pt and a nice 8 pt all behind my stand and out of range
The 10 pt I had pictures of is now a 9 pt,the 8pt in pictures is the one I saw this morning and then at 8:54 am on my lease I had a shooter come right by my duck ladder stand
The natural 9 pt showed up also in the early morning at 4:26 am

Just a few minutes ago 12:32 pm right in front of my Cell tower stand where I hunted yesterday morning, you can see stand in background

Nice. I’m in Ohio bow hunting myself. Awfully hot but had target buck in range twice today in thicket with no shot

been slow here Dan. Its warm and windy, they just started chasing good 2 days ago. Had 3 dinks chasing a doe and a 120 class cruising this morning. Big front pushing through tonight. I expect action tomorrow.

ETA - after I posted this I saw 3 bucks in the last 30 minutes of light. One good'un. No shots of course but still good to see cruzin bucks.

Yesterday afternoon was warm and no movement until I had lowered my bow and put my pack on
Turned to see a large body 50 yds a way
Pulled up the binoculars to see he was a mature shooter only 7 pt but mature heavy and wide with a huge fork on his left beam
He was with a doe
I figure he was tending her and got up at last light
I managed to take my pack off pull my bow back up and nock an arrow
The doe turned and went back towards thick stuff and a train came by and he turned and vanished with her
Was exciting none the less!
In stand now had a 4 pt walk right under me
Warm and breeze but I’m giving it hell anyway

The property I like to visit in eastern NY Taconics is a ghost town. Another hunter has moved in (literally) and has dominated it, pushing the deer out. EHD hit areas to the south and west hard last three years, so the influx of daylight field edge stalkers and 5PM walk in on me hunters have absolutely ruined a good thing.

I'm afraid the 20 yr good run of NY bowseason visits are over for me. Happy hunting, and best of luck to you guys!

Good afternoon sit saw 4 different buck 3 pt 2 different 4 pt and a nice 8 pt that didn't quiet give me a shot, Walking out along the railroad track I could hear deer in the thick brush running and grunting
This is the 8pt that was on a doe going past another stand before they got to me

4 doe and 4 small buck this morning no shooters

My buddy has one kinda like that buck on his place, 3 pt. Antler on one side,grows some what up and a looks to be a round pet, at the base on the other side, don't look broke off, gun starts on Tuesday, I hope to see him!

I'm surprised by that. I thought the incoming weather would have them moving. I'm headed back down to Ohio for the weekend.

That's why I hate the true "rut".

I said to myself you ain't going to get any pictures of deer in your backpack
I got down from my stand at 10am and set it up in front of the stand
2 hours later it sent me the 1st pictures
then some more with a little chasing

Today was a heartbreaker I didn't hunt the morning as I wasn't feeling that well. Had buck movement all over my cameras
I had a family dinner at 3pm that I had to attend so I hunted 11 am till 2 pm then got down and left woods.
At 4 pm shooter walked right in front of of stand I had been sitting in ugh!

Yesterday (Sunday) I had a 4 pt pass 10 yds from me at 1st light then 3 doe.After that it was dead.I sat till a bit after 10 am and at 11:30 am had a 8 pt come by after I was gone I just have to laugh
Some buck moving before dawn this morning but I'm sitting it out as wind isn't right and I feel I've been over hunting Pie Bald and rear Kill stand this past week and unless I have a perfect wind I need to let the area rest







This morning bad wind for these stands (Railroad track and Cell Tower and Rear Kill is borderline)

I was going to sit out the afternoon hunt as wind wasn't conducive for my lease spots. Then I thought I might as well hunt the archery only spot right by my house the wind would be good for 2 of my 3 stands sets. As I was getting my dog fed a picture came in from that property of the short tined 8 pt I had passed earlier in the season so I got changed and took the 2 minute truck drive to the property. As I walked in near the camera that just sent me the picture a deer busted,just saw tail didn't know if it was the buck or a different deer.I kept walking in to get to my middle stand(they only one I don't have a camera near).As I was getting with in sight of the stand I see another deer, its a buck.I drop to one knee and nock an arrow and watch,the deer doesn't spook much and just trots off. I walk to the stand thinking I should have got in here earlier and likely won't see another deer this afternoon but I'm here now so I climb up in the stand hang my pack and bow and get situated. I receive a text from a friend asking if I got out hunting,then another from my cousin of the Big 8 pt that is running between my lease and his property. Then he calls me all upset saying he was 15 minutes late getting in yada yada yada... it was at this time I looked up and to my right 40yds is a buck looking at me with my phone to my ear,I haven't even been in the stand for 3 minute! I say buck gotta go and now I say this ain't gonna be good but I ease my arm down and slip my phone in my pocket.The buck just stares then takes a few steps closer and turns and walks into some sparse brush,I make my move and grab the bow and stand all in one smooth slow motion. I was undetected the buck comes clear at 30 yds I decide not to take the shot he's nice but do I really want him? If he had just continued on his path it would have been good for his future existence but he turned and headed back towards me through the brush and hit a clear spot at 20 yds and I decided I was going to take the shot! My arrow flew true and hit right where I aimed behind the shoulder. He bolted and ran a big semi circle and I watched him drop not 50 yds from me. I waited a few minutes and got down I didn't even look for a blood trail I just walked over to the big tree I last saw him and he was laying dead at the base. He's a 9 pt not a monster but a good mature deer that I am pleased to harvest.Now the work was going to begin and I had the brainstorm walk out take the 2 minute ride home and grab my giant wagon! It worked like a charm hauling him out from time I shot him till time he was hung in my shed was 1 1/2 hrs. Saturday I'm back in the woods with another buck tag for the gun opener. As a side note the big 8 pt that was in these woods and had been vacant since Oct 29th made and appearance at my camera and hit the scrape in front of my stand after all this happened

That’s been my entire season this year. I drive 45 min to a farm and hunt day in and day out. I come home and check the trail camera by the feeder in my backyard and there is a a massive 12 point

Well I got it done early this morning
Had this old guy slip through the thick slashings a bit after 7 am I still don't know how but I found a spot and threaded the needle
One eye poked and pussed up from fighting he dressed out at 175 lbs

Another one bites the dust. Way to go!!! Thanks again for a great ride this year.

I would say the gene pool probably needs to be sanitized of that one. Look at the left side he poked the eye out of the other. Typical deer can't fight them without losing something and they go down hill fast after losing eyes or jaws.

83 years of life and the hassle of Cancer recovery nudged me out of the woods this year. I put a new scope on my rifle but have not sighted it in. I did, however, watch for your annual post and tracked it to the end hunting vicariously with you. Thanks again for your annual post. Makes an ole guy grin!

Wish I could say the same but I've had camera's up on my place for about a month and haven't gotten a pic of a single buck so far. I have lots of does on the place so I'm sure I can put a couple of them in the freezer before bow season ends in February.

It's just odd about the bucks though, I don't know if the neighbors had a really good year or they dropped antlers early or they all bugged out of the area.

And go figure last day of season was yesterday and this guy showed up on my lease last picture I had of him was November 12
