you could put a Holosight on in place of the scope in tight places on drive hunts, or take the scope off if you're having trigger work done at the 'smith, or taking the scope off to travel, etc,

Keep in mind you can do the same thing with tactical-type mounts--you just need a wrench. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I agree it's a nice feature. You can have multiple scopes for one rifle for different uses, you can use the same scope on multiple rifles...probably the best thing is being able to take an extra, pre-zeroed scope with you on out of state/country hunts in case you bash one.

One thing to keep in mind with some bases, such as Ken Farrel, is they may use a similar attachment method but the slots are not always spaced the same as the Picatinny/Mil Spec 1913 bases. This could cause problems if you were wanting to swap from rifle to rifle and you mixed them. One nice thing about Mil Specs, no matter who makes them they will be interchangable.

They are expensive, heavy and many will say ugly...but there's no question about their durability. Here's how they look on my A-Bolt (PRI Picatinny-spec rail, Badger rings):

I think they're beautiful. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
