Bow season for deer has been open a little over two weeks in NY state, Southern zone. I've been out a few times and as of yet havent had a shot. My 17 year old son, Kyle, has been pretty busy as well between school, soccer, and I still get a little work out of him on the farm. However he has made the most of his limited time and killed a nice doe and just this last Sunday a decent forkhorn.
Both were double lung hits and both went down in site. The doe didn't even know it was hit and looked around for a minute, started to walk off, got wobbly, fell over and died within 40 yards of his stand.
The buck was chasing a doe and he called him in using grunts and doe bleats. He said as soon as he shot the buck took off like crazy. Kyle started counting as soon as he shot and when he got to four the buck dropped dead. It still made it 80 yards into the swamp that the stand was on the edge of.
I'm pretty proud of my son for making two good hits and recoveries. It sure is nice when they can clean them and get them home by themselves.
Also it is amazing how fast a sharp broadhead can kill a deer.
I have been getting a little flak for letting my son out do me from friends and family. I just say I'm biding my time for a big one (grin)
Just thought I'd brag a little.

Frank,

Its always nice to hear stories about teenagers who are doing good things. Too many kids today don't get the proper direction from their parents. You've obviously done a good in raising him. Congratulations to you and Kyle.
