My new crossbow came today. I got it put together. I'm new to crossbows and I was wondering about broadheads. Are there special broadheads for crossbows or do regular broadheads work ok? I've always used fixed blade heads in the past but I am thinking about the expandable heads for the crossbow. Anyone care to comment?

Those labeled for crossbow are the same unless you are talking expandables and then the specific "crossbow" models may have heavier bands or retention springs. Fixed blade will be no different but if you go with expandables I would stick with crossbow models or call the broadhead company and see if they will work at the higher velocities.

I have tried both crossbow heads and normal heads. No difference I can tell.

The only difference is the package...
It's just marketing.
Mechanicals, guys seem to favor the Rage, or Spitfires.

It's personal preference and trial and error. Some fixed blade broadheads may shoot the same point of impact as mechanical heads and some won't. Wider 3 blade broadheads sometimes plane more than say a four bladed broadhead. Personally I like mechanicals from a crossbow.

Swampman I just received my new Ten Point Titan Extreme and have the same questions as you, I'm guessing. Can't wait to shoot it if it ever stops snowing, BTW. What Xbow did you buy ?

Fortunately I have the voice of experience close at hand as my pard has been a Xbow hunter for many years. At this point in time I have opted to start with fixed blades and bought a 6 pack of 125gr. 4 blade Innerloks.

Purchase was based on his input and the fact that he has put exactly 13 deer on the ground using these heads. Not too shabby.

I called Ten Point and was told that using 125 grainers would give me a slightly better F.O.C. using the supplied XX75 2219 shafts but 100 grainers will shoot just fine as well.

Just for the heck of it I will be ordering some 125gr Slicks as they have a great rep and their stubby blades don't plane as much as the big wing blades which is honestly second hand info gleaned from the internet.

I also bought the Ten Point Titan Extreme. I'm hearing a lot of good things about the Spitfires.

i shot 3 deer with 2 blade rage in my tenpoint this past season. they all went around 75yds before falling over. the rage broadheads opened up huge holes and passed thru cleanly.

The Spitfires worked well from my Tenpoint I got for my father to use. He first bought some cheap AFC expandables but the first one he shot at a deer went wild. I found the bolt and one blade had opened. Don't know if that happened at the shot or when it landed, but we blamed that on the miss. I bought him Spitfires and he took 4 deer with them. They seemed to do the job pretty well.
