I bought an API Grand Slam Supreme climbing tree stand back in the 90's. This stand has performed well over the years but now the shrink wrap covering the chains is toast and there's some rust showing. I'd like to replace the chain and covering. Bass Pro wants over $60. and out of stock. The chain is stamped A2040. Has anyone replaced these chains?? Sources?

I am in the same boat. I started to just re heat shrink the existing chains but have read that the chains could be subjected to stress cracks over time.
I may strip the coating after the season and take a closer look at mine.

I have found API replacement chains on fleabay before.
I'm just guessing.... that the a2040 is most likely a low grade, rust resistant conveyor type chain (due to the long links) that's probably pretty standard in the food industry. It should be easy to locate from a wholesaler.
The shrink wrap is standard in the electrical field.

Years back I used a heat gun and put pex tubing over mine. Worked really well. Had to use para cord tied to the chain and had the tubing on the paracord. Don’t use the stand anymore but checked it out in the attic couple months ago. Still holding up

Probably 15 years ago API went to a better shrink wrap. They used to sell it. I called them and ordered over the phone. I replaced the original stuff that would only last about 2 years with the newer stuff and haven't had to replace it since. I hunt a lot more than the average Joe too. You may try calling them.

A2040 is cheap motorcycle chain I have it by the spoils in the shop. Take the wrap off completely and dip the chain in Plastic Dip...The stuff sold for took handles

I have bought a lot of motorcycle chain in my time and I have never seen a double pitch chain used on a motorcycle drive sprocket, The 2040 is an extended link conveyor chain,... Not limited to but used a lot in barbq and rotisiourie cookers.

I've seen it used on everything from conveyors, bicycles, Harleys and my favorite those old pedal cars from the 50s. Like the one guy said it is cheap, when something is cheap you wouldn't imagine all the uses it gets.

Just bought a used API and discovered what a PITA that flaky old wrap is. My fix is to take the s&$t off. I can deal with the noise if I have to.

I have run API stands exclusively for over 20 years, I pick up new shrink wrap on Amazon every couple years, replaced the chains I think once on each as well.
