If you could only use, say, 10 flies, what would you choose?

Same question asked a different way, if you were going to tie 10 flies because they were most productive what would you pick? These will be very regional!

For me:
Pheasant tail
Gold ribbed hares ear
Prince nymph
RS2
BWO sparkle dun
Hopper
Elk hair caddis
Parachute Adams
Scud
Leech, or maybe Rock Worm or San Juan worm.

That's a great selection. My list would look very similar, but I'd make room for a few Casual Dress and I'd go heavy on the scuds.

EDIT: I'd squeeze in some Griffiths Gnats as well.

Throw a Woolly Bugger and a Stonefly in there and I'd be good.

Around here i'd replace the RS2 with an ant pattern but the rest of that looks a lot like my fly boxes. Well, I do have a bunch of Sulpher's so may need to find some more trade space!

Great list, for me and where I live I would drop the Scud and Leech and add a Sulphur Sparkle Dun and a Zebra Midge (Black/Silver).

All the flys mentioned, I think, will catch fish just about anywhere. Add a couple of local favorites and you should be good to go. That being said size means a lot too.

My fly boxes are a hodge podge of flys, some I have no clue where they came from, but there are days when none of them work.

If trout refuse to bite I ll sometimes throw a big articulated leech /streamer pattern with a sink tip and throw it down and across stream and let swing then strip in. It has saved me from many fishless days

Sounds almost like sacrilege but I would drop the pheasant tail and substitute a good Frenchie pattern. Also, find a way to add a small rainbow warrior.

One thing I've used east and west (Colorado) is a CopperJohn or a close bead-head derivative - for a rook like me it always seems to come through especially on overcast days. I would find a place on the list for it.
