Good morning. I have a 300 Win Mag, 26 in , 1-10twist bbl. I recently came into some 200 grain ELDX bullets and got some test loads to shoot with 4831sc, then realized that I was out of that powder.

I was able to find two pounds(same lot#) of IMR 7828 ssc. I'm not finding alot of load data for this powder. Any of you use this with 200 grain bullets?

Nosler book lists 64.5gr to start and 68.5 max

Hodgden site lists 70gr to start and 74 max!

That's quite a difference. Any help with this would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I have been using 7828 in my 7x300 Wetherbys for a long time, and it has proven to be a very good powder for me especially from the velocity stand point.
One word of caution however is to approach max loads very cautiously.
When the door slams with that powder it slams very hard.
I would strongly suggest you start at a known safe load point, then increase the charge weight in half grain increments
for just one round, and increase a half grain for one more and so on till you detect the slightest bolt sticky.
When you reach that point STOP, dont even try another half grain, because it could well lock up your gun.
Also best to do your testing on days with moderate temps, not cold days where you might be able to use a slightly heavier charge.

I just downloaded the Hornady App. It is saying that 73.9 grains is max. I just finished loading 5 rounds each from 69 to 73, in half grain increments.

Let oking at our weather, next Tuesday is supposed to be a beautiful 59 degrees in the morning! I'll be heading out early to try these out.

Loaded under a 180 grain Nosler Accubond 1/2 grain under Hodgdon max popped a primer in mine last Saturday.

Never been my favorite powder in anything. Lots better options if you can find them...I just picked up 2 #’s each of the new 8133 and 7977...both should produce good velocities with pressure within parameters with that bullet.

I’ll post my results ask move along the path and we can compare notes.

Start at 70 and work up

I loaded some a few years ago 190gr or 200 gr Bear Claw using IMR 7828SSC I,ll go look at my data in the garge. He said they

worked fine. Later

I,d start at 70 gr and work up I used 200gr TBBC 215 M primer Win case and OAL of 3.340. We got to 74 grains and quit. each rifle is different.

I have 2 7mm Mags top load with 160gr Bullets to get equal velocity is 3 grains different. I have be careful which shells I put in which rifle. Good

Luck. I believe he killed 2 Elk with that load.
