I'm looking to improve upon a 130 grain bullet load for the 270 Win. I noticed that Alliant claims 3200fps using RL16 and a 130 Partition (using Federal brass). That is potent medicine. I have an 8# jug of the stuff so I'm going to give it a try. Has anyone tried working up this combination yet?
I have worked up loads with R16 for 257 Bob and 6.5x284 and have been pleased.
Can't find more powder or I would try it in the 270. But now running R17 in it mostly.
My pre-64 270 absolutely adores 16 with VLD’s @ 140 grain.
Used it in my 270 win with 110gr Barnes TTSX I got 3401 FPS. Seemed to be mild load. Got same speed with RL17 also.
I loaded up a few and shot for speed yesterday picking up roughly 125 fps over the previous RL22 load. There were no pressure signs at all and I stopped just shy of the Alliant max. I know that is not much but out of a 18" carbine I'll take what I can get. I'll load up a few more to see how they do for accuracy.
