257 Weatherby mag loads. 100TTSX, using H-4831sc 64-68gr, or H-4350 59-63gr. Can a Federal 210 be substituted for a Federal 215?

The fed 215 was developed at Roy weatherby's request so his cartridges would experience no hangfires and they work. MB

I use the magnum primer.

I have used hundreds of standard primers in 257 and 270 Weatherby loads, mostly CCIs. I have had no hang fire issues and accuracy in my rifle was better with CCI 34s than with whatever number CCI’s magnum large rifle primers are.

Good timing. I just started loading the 100 gr. TTSX and I'd like to hear what others have experienced.

So far I have only used 64 grains of old H-4831. I wanted to get some rounds loaded to try the bullet on PA whitetail. With the 215 primer the groups were 1 to 1.2". With a 215M primer the groups were .75".

I'll start experimenting with other powders after PA's deer season closes.

RL22, 215s, and Weatherby cases always did very well for me under 100 GR monos.

I doubt it’d be as accurate but doubt it could hurt anything to try the substitution.

215 match always for me

I always used 215 or 215M these are the most popular in the manuals I have on hand one says WLRM another CCI 250. I also have heard use magnum primer for 50 grains and up of any extruded slow burning powder. All that said my Ramshot manual says WLR primer all their powder is spherical to my knowledge. WLR is purportedly hotter than the 210. There are some new powders that ignite easier than older or extruded.

The 215 was developed to ignite the large powder charges in the .378 Wby.

I always start with Federal 215 or 215m when working up loads in an effort to find maximum charge weights. Going to a lessor primer usually reduces pressure so not necessary to start from scratch again. Certain combinations the magnum primer will produce more velocity. I have not seen better accuracy with standard primers, equal but not better.

Longtime 257 user here but just a hunting gun, but I am in the process of starting to learn how to reload just because I want to learn. 50-100 rounds will last this hunter a very long time. Wondering if anyone could help me find some Ttsx 100 grain bullets to get started with ; thanks in advance

My standard load for my .257 Wby. uses 100 gr. Barnes TTSX bullets, CCI 250 primers, Wby brass, and RL22 powder. MV out of my MkV 26" barrel is 3700 fps, with sub-MOA accuracy. It is a real performer on game up to and including elk.
