I found a stash of 200 gr Core Lokts. Anyone use Rl15 with 200s?

Good sir, I would save the premium powder. 358 Win is a cheap date. Winchester 748, TAC and 3031 will outperform Varget, 4064 and RL15 in this caliber.

Edit…Almost forgot 4198.

I have TAC and this rifle does not like it.

Have you tried magnum primers with TAC? That was a suggestion I got re .358 and TAC.... have not tried it yet but I was not very happy with TAC and standard primers in my .358 either.

3 types of magnum primers. This rifle is a Hawkeye. My BLR loves TAC, the Ruger will not shoot it acceptability for me.

If that's all you have it *should* work well enough for hunting. It seems a touch slow for 200s. My rifle didn't like TAC too much with 200s either. I've been using IMR3031 & A2015 with very good results with 200 Hornadys. Warm, but not max, accuracy loads, A2015 beats 3031 by about 80-100fps in my rifle. Both group well. Magnum primers not needed. I use WLRs for most things including TAC with 225 & 250s.

Just tried some VV N133 (I found some for sale cheaper than most domestic powder) & while it was comparable to 3031 for speed, the groups were notably rounder & tighter. Will be trying it again next trip to the range.

I've had better luck with IMR4064 than anything else in 358 with 200 grainers. It isn't a scorcher for velocity, but the accuracy has been quite nice. 5 shot group from 100yds out of a 358 Win built on a 1909 Mauser.

I load 200gr. Hornady Inter-lok RN in my .35 Whelen, most accurate powder has been IMR 3031 often producing 3 shot cloverleaf groups @ 100yds.. I found this load in Ken Waters' Pet Loads, he reported it as most accurate.

I had tried TAC in mine, best accuracy I could do was 1.25 @ 100 yards. Honestly that would be good for 300 yards or so, but decided to see if i could do better. Trying R7 right now, shows promise, but maybe 50-75 fps loss of velocity which in the scope of things is nothing!

I would be happy with that. Mine has been over 2” with multiple loads. I found some 4320, it’s been good with it.

While the best I could do was 1.25, it never did bad for me either. Most loads using TAC grouped between 1.25-1.75. Rarely did it go 2 inches. And that is 4 shot groups, not 3. So it does seem fairly consistent in mine. One thing that probably helps is it is a Walther Lothar barrel, and was mated to a Mauser action by a very competent gunsmith.

+1. Found several powders that shot faster with 200's, but I can't recall any that shot more accurately than IMR 4064 in my BLR.

MagMarc, are yours the SP or RN Core Lokts? I bought 500 of the SP's years ago and found while they are excellent performers, they aren't as accurate as the Sierra's or Hornadys and I've shot a lot of different powders with them. I ended up with a load using VV N135 that shot 5 around 2" at 100 yards.

They are the SPS. I bought them for the BLR and forgot about them.

Yea they were tough for me to get anything consistent, I once shot three touching with IMR 4064 but never came close again. I settled on the VV N135 and figured I had so many it was good enough to deer hunt.

MagMarc- I also have a R77 Hawkeye SS 358Win & haven't found it to be any better than ~2MOA, at best. I haven't played w/ the bedding at all other than observing the fore-end is not free floated. I've tried a few 200gr Hornady PSP w/ H4895, Varget, RE15, & IMR3031 but no better than 2-3MOA.With RE15 I got up to 49gr, probably about 2400fps (chrono was having problems) and no signs of any high pressure (Win brass, Fed 210) or great accuracy. However, my actual hunting bullets have been limited to Barnes 180 & 200gr TTSX and have tried many powders (TAC, Xterminator, AR Comp,& Benchmark) but better than 2MOA has been elusive. I also have a Ruger American (20" barrel) 358Win which has done much better w/ the 180gr TTSX & H4198, about 3/4 MOA @ 2700fps, using 43.5-45gr.I saw this load in the first Barnes Manual for the original 180gr X bullet, not the TSX/TTSX. I would definitely use the RAR w/ this load for pig or deer w/ confidence. Good Luck! -Mark & Belle

MarknMaggie try IMR 4064. It doesn't give the velocity of some others, but have had very good accuracy with several 200 grn bullets. I shot this 10 shot group with the the 200 Sierra and 48.5 grns...the shot out of the group was my fault, first shot and I jerked the trigger.

748 or 4064. Two distinctly different powders but one or the other should give excellent accuracy if the TAC doesn't. I haven't tried the RL-15. Be Well, RZ.
