I’m brand new to loading for a 264 Win Mag. Picked up one yesterday, has a 1:9 twist.
Would like to shoot 130-140s. I do have some 120s but would prefer 130-140s. Any loading help/advice I could get would be much appreciated.

My pre-64 is a 9 twist, it fires 139gr scenars and 160gr woodleighs great with RL-33, Fed-215 primers, keep an eye out in the classifieds, Crod has the brass from time to time, i bought 250 sticks of once fired WW brass for 65 bucks shipped.

I use Retumbo in mine, have used RL25, RL33 and 7828 in the past. All worked great.

This is my load work with Retumbo and 140 Accubonds.

Retumbo seems to be about the same as finding a unicorn. LGS had an 8 pounder of RL 33 just now. Hope i can find a load with it.
I’ve been low on Magnum suitable powders because I hadn’t owned a Magnum of any kind in probably 10-12 years or more.
Speer seems to have Rl33 data for 140’s in the latest manual but 140 grain is all they list. Which manuals are good for 130’s and 140’s in the 264?

RL33 is GOOOOOOD stuff.. Go get that stuff. It's really good stuff with 140's.

57 grains of IMR 4350 with a 140 ballistic tip in 4 different rifles. All sub inch groups.

It was the only 33 on the shelf and their powder shelf has been much thinner than normal the last couple months so I grabbed it. They had 8 Lb jugs of H4350 the other day. Probably should have grabbed one of those for my Creedmoor and 30-06. Then I could have quit playing the powder game for a while 🤦‍♂️

I’ve seen Retumbo one time in the last 2 years. I didn’t buy it, as RL26 was next to it on the shelf, so I took it.

Have your checked the speed on that load?

One other question, can someone point me to published data for RL33 and 130 grain bullets? Thanks

No published data help here, but, you can start at 70gr RL-33 and a chronograph with either 130's or 140's, that's what i did with the 139gr Scenars, if you find yourself wanting to shoot the heavies, start at 65gr RL-33 under the 160gr Woodleighs.

139's ran an accurate 3270 fps, 160 Woodleighs run 2990.

LRT will work also if you can't find the others, seems to be available fairly often.
Posted By: 79S Re: 264 Win Mag powders - 03/31/22
Magpro with 140 Hornady’s and 140 AB. I was getting 3222 fps with 125gr partitions using magpro.

400 yds? That’s pretty good.

I use Ramshot Magnum behind the 127 TTSX Barnes, and Rl 33 behind the 140 Acubonds.

I can't do it everytime RR, but the rifle is very accurate with this load. I have never shot anything much larger than twice that group size at 400. That's with the silly Leupold dot in the 6x36..

R33 if you can find it. 140's

Seems to be a lot of 33 users.

I started with RL-33 at 72 grains and worked past 75 but settled on it, with 130AB's I was/am getting 3350 and super pleased with it. A real do-all kind of load, and Im not really a do-all kind of rifle owner. Love it. You did really good. I'd be all over 8lbs of 33.

264 WM are barrel eating son of a gun!

Cool burning powders that really work well are H1000, tops on the list, then N160 and N165. There is a Heat Index chart you can consult, and this will at least double your barrel life.

I have shot out a few.

139 Scenars does it all, near and far!

Finding any kind of powder now is hard, we have to use what ever we can find. I shot out one model 70 with 129g Hornady Interlock flat base with the accuracy load of IMR 4831 with a Rem 9 1/2 in a rem case at 3150 fps. This was not a hot load but got the job done on big white tails and hogs. The 129 Sp is the unsung hero of the shortish range 6.5's in all calibers, as it thinks it is a partition.

I have been shooting the 264 since 1964. Years back, used H-870 for the 140gr bullets. Now use VV24N41. Drives the 140gr Nosler AB to 3229 in my 26", 1/9 twist Bbl very accurately. Rel 33 drives the Barnes 120gr TSX/TTSX to around 3450 fps. Primers I use are CCI #250 LRM.

Bought a 264 barrel for my Encore last fall, currently working on 124 gr Hammer Hunter with N570 and RL33, the RL33 seems much slower burning. Right now getting 3390 -3400 fps with really low SD from 75.3 gr of N570, RL33 with same bullet and 75 gr is 3280 fps. Neither is pressured out but N570 is getting close.

That 124 at 3400 sounds like a wicked mother!

US869 was my huckleberry with 139 - 143 gr bullets. Pretty much the same as LRT.

Never got RL-33 to work for me.

Enough H4831 to get around 3650fps from a 24" barrel shot little tiny groups with the now discontinued Sierra 85 gr.

Used IMR 8133 with 140 gr accubonds 2 years ago. Didn't chrono it, but had very good accuracy. Used this load on mule deer at 90 yards. Not much of a test tho
Posted By: RiverRider Re: 264 Win Mag powders - 04/20/22
The first powder and bullet I tried when I acquired a .264 Win Mag was 140 Accubonds and IMR7828. It worked well and I've stuck with it. My load clocks about 3170.

For 120gr Hornady ELD load, I've found success half MOA groups at 100yd in factory Sendero using 75.5gr Vihtavori 24N41 and seated 0.005" off the lands. 3210fps and 11fps spread, 5.8fps STDEV. Tack driver consistent at 80F.

No sir, I have not.

IMR-4350 also shoots well in my .264 Win Mag Remington 700 Classic with 125 gr Partitions and 120gr Ballistic Tips.
Posted By: keith Re: 264 Win Mag powders - 09/18/22
H1000 will give double the barrel life of a lot of powders in the 264 Win mag, heat index indicates it is a cool burning powder.
