I have several lbs of it and and several different rifles. What is your favorite use for H4831 and with what bullets?
My 22-250 loves it with heavy bullets like the 73 eldm and 77 tmk. It’s not quite as fast as say H4350 but way more accurate.
I know you can't get enough of it in an 06 case to exceed Saami SPECS, regardless of bullet weight...

even if you need to crimp the bullet, to keep the powder from expanding and pushing the bullet out...

you can run a 200 grain bullet at 2900+ fps... and a 220 grainer in the 2800 to 2850 fps range.
270’s . Either 130 or 140 grain loads. Usually my most accurate loads come from this powder.
300 WM with 180 or200 grain Speer grand slams
140 gr bullet in the 6.5 Swede
160 gr. NAB in 7mm Rem mag. 168 Berger in 7mm SAUM.
30-06 200 & 220 Sierra Game Kings and Nosler Partition’s.
6.5x55 with 140-147 match and game bullets of any brand.
There is no H-4831ssc (super short cut), only short cut (sc)

I've used it in .260 Rem, .270 Win, .30-06, .30 Gibbs, .338 Win
400 gr. DGX Bonded in my 400 Jeffrey NE #1.
25-06 with 100s @ 3300fps in a 26" barrel.
My 270 Montana likes it with the 140 gr TSX.
I have 2 great loads with H4831sc.

280AckImp with 150gr ELD-X

6.5 creedmoor with 143gr ELD-X
I use it in most of the cartridges I load for. Most of my overbore cartridges, and my standard cartridges like the 30-06, 270, etc... and all my magnum cartridges except for my 26 Nosler get it. It may not be the fastest in most of them, but it is consistent, gives me excellent accuracy, gives me a full case, and is very temperature stable.... and the short cut meters very well in my powder measure
270 winchester with 150 speers
243 with 90-100g bullets.
270 with 140-160g.
30-06 and 30-06AI with 165-200g.

Now that RL26 has mostly replaced H4831 in my 270’s I’m trying to find more uses for the 20lbs of H4831 that’s occupying my powder cabinet…..
I wish I could find some R26
243 , 30-06 , 300 WM and 300 Weatherby
243 and 30-06 works best with heavier projectiles
243 with 1/10 or 1/8 twists works well with it

While the 300’s seem to work well with 130gr TTSX and up
The 200gr SGK works good in the 06 and 300’s
with this powder
Kenneth
Wow, and I thought it could only be used in the 270 Winchester with 130 grain bullets. Guess I need to buy some more guns.
243 and 6mm remington,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I used to use it in a .257 Roberts (100gn) but then switched to H4350.

Then in a .25-06 (100 - 115gn) but then switched to H1000 (115 - 120gn).

Then in my .280 (140 - 160gn) but then switched to Re19.

But I finally settled on H4831sc in my .257 Ackley with the 115gn Ballistic Tip at 2990 fps with 50gn. Nosler lists 50.5gn.
I use H4831sc in my 300H&H with 180s.

That's really fast for those bullet weights in the 30-06.

You aren't kidding. I wonder what case to get that much powder in to get those speeds.
154 & 160 gr in 7x57
6MM Creed, 105 gr. A-Max, or 105 gr, Scenar. Rio7

I need to give that a shot in mine. Seems like your rifle hammers with it.
Unbeatable in my 270WCF with 130 and 140 gr bullets!

N165 being a close second.

40" barrel ?
It became my go to for heavy for caliber Sierras in my 260 Rem 140's and 270Win 150's.
270win, 150 NP

tried it in the 280AI, and it gave good accuracy, but poor velocity compared to other powders.
145 gr Speer btsp in the 284 Savage 99
30-06 with 220's, 270's with 130's and 150's but I like R23 better for the 150's, and 44-45 gr in a 243 with a 95-100 gr bullet is a cant miss. I try to keep a massive amount of it cause I use a it a LOT.
257 Roberts, 120 Partition, Nosler case, Fed 210M, 48gr H-4831sc, 2956fps, 2.955 COAL. Ruger No.1 26" barrel.
I used it in a 300 WM 76 gr. Lit by a Fed 215 and 180 gr. Sbt. I also used it for my 25-06 with 52.5 gr. 117 Sbt and a cci 250 26” bbl.

Yep, Seafire and i talked about this 10 years ago, i took the challenge, with a black powder drop tube and new WW brass i was able to easily get 2800 fps with 200gr partitions from my old pre64 '06 at 3.330 COL with excellent accuracy, 2800 fps more than satisfied my curiosity LOL! primers and bolt lift was great, in fact, in a separate test i loaded one stick of brass 5 times, all good.

I keep trying it, but I have a hard time getting better results than I do with h4350. Sure would love to use in in my 26" barrel 30-06 xbolt.
Makes sense to me. I'd guess the spacious WW cases along with the long tube would get it in there. I tried to do it with a 4" drop tube and barely could get enough in to get 2600 from the 200 ABs. Might have to try it again in the future.
The old '06 is a heavy weight banger so loaded gentlemen.
I have burned pounds and pounds of it in my 270's. 130's, 140's, and 150's.
270 with 130s, I load for 3 of them.

Probably my favorite powder in the .260 Rem for bullets 129gr and heavier. Works in the 6.5 CM too with the heavier bullets but compression is a little more than I like in that case.

My first choice in the .270 Win.

This. Accuracy was so good we stopped here
280 Rem, behind a 139 grain Hornady SST. 257 Bob, behind a 117 grain Hornady round nose. Just to name a couple. By far my favorite powder on the bench.

Rich
H4831 is probably my favorite "all around" rifle powder for my larger cases and/or longer barrels:

270Win, 24" barrel 130BTs , ABs
300WM, 24" barrel 165 TGKs, , 180 BTs and ABs
6mm SLR 26" Barrel, 105 Hybrids

Chuck
It works well in so many cartridges, that it is hard to pick. My latest use for the last pound that I had, was for my .270.
I own two rifles chambered for 270 WIN, they both get their best performance (velocity/accuracy) from handloads using H4831sc. A M-70 with the 130 grain Interlock and a M-77 with the 140 grain Interlock.

My .270 is a M70, also. I got the rifle in a trade with the intention of selling it, since it is right hand. My buddy said," Don't shoot it, if you intend to sell it". I shot it and now still have it. 60 grains of H4831 under the 130 Interlock is amazingly accurate and deadly on deer. IMR 4831 is there, also, however a bit slower speed.

I have enough ammo loaded with the IMRs, to last me probably the rest of my days-if I don't sell it.
grin
i use it in my Rem 700 .280 with 140 grain Accubonds. It gives me good accuracy and velocity.

.243 Winchester - 100 grain bullets -
7x61 S&H Super - 140 and 154 gr -
.308 Norma Mag - 165, 180 and 200 gr -
.300 Weatherby - 165, 180, 200 gr -

In some cases, newer powders produce more velocity. Truthfully, I am reluctant to develop new loads for thes rifles as I am very satisfied with the performance of the ones I use now.

I don't use it in my 6.5 Creedmoor, .30-06 or .338 Win Mag. I prefer H4350 for the first two and RL22 or RL19 for the .338
I like it in my coffee
I like it in 270 with 130 gr bullets. 59.5-60 gr depending on primer used.
300 H&H with 180 Partitions
338 WM with 250 Partitions
Oddly, maybe, both of those weren't long involved work-ups, but the first powder tried with those bullets.
I used a bunch of it in a 8mmMag with 220 Xs and Sierras also, come to think of it.
Looks promising in a 358 STA with 250 grain bullets too.

You should try a double base powder. For the extra kick.
260 Rem and 129 Interlocks
300 H&H with 180 Noslers.

It was good in my .280 as well, but I found Re19 gave a little extra oomph with the same accuracy. But Re19 can be a bit patchy to find here at times so when it runs out I'll most likely go back to H4831sc.
Can H4831 and H4831sc be used interchangeably? Is there a very notable difference in velocity and pressure? I've used and got good results with H4831, but have no experience with H4831sc.

Yes, same/same. SC = short cut. supposed to be easier to meter than non sc, but....................maybe.

Thanks.

Yeah,I knew sc stood for short cut and would have obvious metering advantages, but was not sure whether velocity and pressure was the same for any given measure.

Thank you, again
