I am the proud new owner of a Ruger #1 with a Les Bauska barrel installed and chambered 7mm DGS. It is an auction site purchase that came with 100 cases and a set of RCBS dies. The cartridge is based on the 7X57 and is "improved" a bit more than the Ackley version. The neck is shorter and shoulder angle is steeper. Does anyone know of a source of information on this cartridge or have any experience with it. I will check case capacity and figure starting with 7mm Ackley loads will get me in the ballpark. I cross posted this in the wildcat section. Thanks in advance.

Back to the top for a second pass and then it's history.
Thanks

There was a DGS Custom Gun Works in Littleton, CO at one time. No idea if they're still in business or if they are related to your wildcat. Sounds like a cool cartridge. Good luck working up some loads!

This is a cartridge developed by Dale Storey, a smith in Casper, Wy. I talked to him this week and he developed it to overcome some issues in chambering and forming for the Ackley versions. I can fireform 7X57 factory brass and use 7X57 Ackley data to start. Since the rifle came with dies and a hundred used cases, that made it an affordable wildcat. I'll order some new brass and just go with Ackley data. I don't need to hotrod it since I have a 280 Ackley, 7 Gibbs and belted 7's if I need more.
