Hey guys. I've been loading/shooting my Savage 110 lightweight .308 with 168 gr Barnes TTSX and H4895 with great success, very accurate. Decided I want to try the 150 gr TTSX with the same powder. Has anyone used and liked that bullet/powder combo and if so, what load did you settle on? I figure I'll start with a mid-range load and work up in 0.2 grain increments but am curious to know if any of you guys have done this and where you may have started and ended up.

You'll shoot yer eye out.

0.2 gr increments is a waste of time and components.

0.5 if you're working up a load.

In my NULA .308, I use the 150 TTSX BT and 44 grs. H4895. Muzzle velocity just over 2800 fps. Very accurate and an excellent elk load. I've also tried R15, 748, and Varget in my rifle. H4895 has been the most accurate. I use a CCI-200 primer and Remington or Winchester brass. I've also used the 168 TSX (not TTSX) and 43 grs. H4895, another very accurate elk load; MV = 2700.

My rifle prefers Varget to H4895 for the 150 TTSX or etip. I was able to reach 2900 with H4895 but but was better accuracy. I shot my elk a weeks back with a 150 etip using Varget and a 308. Worked great.

I wouldn't do 0.2 gr increments. 0.5 is plenty fine enough.

Good call, though. No one should combine H4895 and ANY Barnes bullet in 308 cases without first spending half an hour prepping each case using a variety of dies and tools costing several thousand dollars American.

It would be a weird 308 that didn't digest H4895 and a 150 grain bullet very well.

True. Pretty standard combo.

I worked up to pretty much the listed max in the H online data. Around 2,880fps in a 22” factory barrel with 150 E-Tip, NAB, and NBT. I have accurate H4895 loads in several chamberings these days.

Thats the beauty of a .308. With 150 grain bullets, practically any middle of the road powder, like Varget, 4895, RL15 etc. will work for a hunting rifle load

Look at 4064, Varget, 4895 or RL-15.

Yes, 0.5 gr increments makes sense and will be a money and time-saver. I'll probably start at 41.5 gr of 4895 and go up to 43.5 or 44.0. Looking forward to working it up.

I had nodes at 44.5 and 45.7gr of 4895. Alpha Small primer brass and a long throat.

FYI. The 150 TTSX has a minimum impact velocity for expansion of 2000 fps. One of he highest in the Barnes line-up. It was designed for reloaders who want to shoot it from 300 magnums. Where the 150 TSX is 1800 fps and the 168 TTSX/TSX is 1500 fps.
