Hodgdons will officially announce Ramshot Grand at S.H.O.T. Show 2024. The powder is featured on the cover of their 2024 reloading manual. I called Hodgdons to find out more about the powder. I am told it is similar to H1000 in burn rate and temperature insensitivity with the added feature of copper fouling eliminator (CFE).

I, like many, will be interested in seeing how close ... if not better this powder will be than H1000. In my experience, adding insensitivity or copper reducing additives doesn't always make a powder better. Case in point, I prefer IMR 4350 over Hodgdons 4350. Both are great powders, but in my applications, I4350 shoots just a smidge tighter. IMR7977 (no longer available) is better than StaBall HD in my 25-06 with a 120gr bullet.

Can't wait to try it.

Sounds pretty interesting. I'd give it a run. Lotsa good slow burning powders out there right now.

What are the chances you could actually find some to buy? I’ve been looking for Ramshot Magnum for years now.

There is a few pounds sitting on the self at BPS. I know that doesn't help you unless you are in Glendale AZ, but the product is still shipping.

I’ve seen Magnum around here a lot lately. I’ve got at least 8 pounds of it use it a bunch. Herschel where are you located?

About an hour east of Atlanta

I was disappointed in Ramshot LRT, the previous Ramshot powder introduced that was slower-burning than Magnum. It did not get velocities matching their published data in the 3-4 rounds I tested it in. But maybe Grand will be different....

Mule Deer, I hope you can get an early sample of Grand and let us know how it does.

This is a neat development

Not grand but this is close.

If it does as well then great

Magnum is good stuff!

I’m not sure how effective putting “frozen” rounds in an ambient temp chamber has that much effect on determining actual temp sensitivity of a powder.

Others may want to chime in.

IIRC JB has written that Magnum, in his testing, isn’t quite as temp resistant as Hunter, Big Game or TAC. H-1000 is known to be pretty temp resistant.

To me, where I hunt, no big deal. I’d say shoot what you can find. But from an academic point of view, I’m not convinced this demonstration has a lot of merit; it lacks scientific rigor.

Open to comments.

Interesting!
I couldn’t find any magnum powder during Covid as well, I settled on mag pro for 300 win with 212s.
Too bad I still can’t find magnum primers even if my life depended on it .
I’ll be following this

I'm seeing small rifle and pistol primers, no large rifle, std or magnum.

Some postulate that with all the wars going on, the ammo makers are at full output, nothing left over for reloaders.

But, most military rifle ammo, seems to me, uses small, not large primers.

So, I don't know why small and not large primers are showing up on dealer's shelves.
