I pulled out a bucket of 30-06 brass that I planned on using for a M1. This brass has only been deprived and primer pockets swaged.
Most of the brass is LC 74. I saw a few oddities.

One: about one in a dozen required trimming.
Two: about one in four appeared to the neck and shoulder annealed.
Three: many had a slight indent about a quarter of inch from the end.
There were a few of these indents that looked like a cut in the brass. I looked to see if I could see daylight through the side. No daylight, but the cut is significant. If you look close at this photo you’ll see what I’m writing about.
I’m throwing these cases away. I don’t recall seeing these “cuts” in the necks before.

The shell case in the picture is from a M1909 blank.

Here is a link to a long discussion on using blank shell cases with regular loads.

I’ll be throwing away the blank cases. I didn’t think about blanks. I wonder where I got these cases??? I’ve had them a long time.
