Ok have a Tikka t3 20” in 308
Savage 110e carbine in 30-06
What would be one or 2 go to bullets that would work for both guns, deer elk or bear size stuff at say 400 yards
I dont want a huge selection just 1 or 2 that would be multi purpose
Same on powder i prefer ball powder and ram shot but open to ideas
Thanks
A Hornady or Speer 150-165gr. and the same weight Barnes TTSX for heavier game. CFE223, Big Game for ball powder and Varget or 4064 for stick powders.
165gr NTB or AB.
Or 150gr and 180gr NBT.
barnes 130gr ttsx, just plain kills
I’ve been transitioning to copper 150’s and 165-168’s for my 06’s and 308.
If I had to choose one powder for both cartridges it would probably be Varget. It’s not double based but temp stability is generally important to me.
A 165 Hornady interlock and never look back. I would look at 748 in the 308 but probably go IMR4350 in the '06.
Good LUck,
Rick
I worked up a load for my son's 30-06 that shoots good and he was getting DRT results on deer. Tried it in my 2 30-06s too and it works well in them as well. 165 gn SBT Speer over IMR 4350.
150 ttsx and varget for both
Hard to go wrong with a Speer or Hornady 165. If you wanted tipped a Nosler 165/168 Ballistic Tip.
165 Accubond or 150 TTSX.
130 Barnes ttsx and 150 Nosler BT/AB.
Varget and Big Game
165 of your choice. TAC in the 308, one of the 4350s in the 30-06.
Okie John
Strange request, but given the parameters, it would be the Hornady 165 SP Interlock.
A 165 and TAC or Big Game.
Powders may not be optimal in one or the other but they will work.
I think a 150 grain Power Hammer would work for you. I'm using them locally for deer, versatile in respect to the range of impact velocities it will work at...but I have no experience with any Hammer bullet with elk at 400.
A 165 gr. Accubond for both cartridges. As an alternate, the 165 gr. Speer Hot Core.
PJ
For bullets 130 TTSX for the .308 and 150 TTSX for the .06 and H4895 for both.
For bullets 130 TTSX for the .308 and 150 TTSX for the .06 and H4895 for both.
I use the 130 ttsx in my 308, 30-06, 300 win mag
TTSX 150 grain or absolute hammer 162 grain. That's what I use
180 grain Speer hot cor, 4895
for me one of the most consistent bullets for accuracy 160 gr. Hammer Hunter copper bullets , plus the great thing they seem to always have them on hand and ship fast too. i have a 1-10 twist rifle. good luck with your choice,Pete53
150 ttsx and varget for both
I concur - about as K.I.S.S. as it gets.
150 ttsx and varget for both

I use big game and have good results with 165 hornady sp. Any heavier in a 30-06 I’d go hunter for powder. Use mag primers! Great velocity and accuracy with that combo.
Inexpensive 150gr spitzers and a premium 165-180 grain will cover a huge spectrum. Start with H4350 and Varget (or H4895, if it really exists). Work out your best loads first, then stockpile.
Barnes 130 TTSx for 308 and Barnes 168 TTSX for 30-06, or NP150 for 308 and NP 165 for 30-06 whichever groups best
Similar to others who have posted - a 165gr of some sort; Hornady, Barnes, Nosler, Speer... Varget for the .308, 4350 for the '06.
165 Hornady with IMR4064.
165 grn Hornady Interlock SP, Varget.
Regards,
Manny
Like several others have said: use 165 grain bullets ( I use Hornady) and 57 grains of 4350 especially in a 30/06. Use the same in .308. I use and prefer .30 caliber. I have both, one a 1984 Winchester Model 70 Carbine and a tanger Ruger M 77 RSI in 308. I’ve had both rifles since 1977 or so. Most any 30/06 will shoot the above load accurately. It’s a load that has been around forever and I’ve seen it listed here numerous times. It simplifies things.
130 or 150 TTSX in a solid, or 165 Interlock for cup and core. Powder would be whatever your rifles shoot best with these projectiles, at your chosen velocity.
150 ttsx and varget for both
This.
