Anyone using Ramshot Hunter under 150-165gr bullets in the '06? I'm curious as to the velocity and accuracy.

Any powder with a burn rate similar to the 4350's and RL19 ought to do nicely. Never tried it though. Let us know. My personal favourites for that application are IMR4350 and H414. Very consistent, accurate and velocities where you would expect -- 165's around 2890 fps and 150's around 3000 fps. Ya don't need more than that, and if you do, get a 300 magnum. wink

Mtn, RS Hunter is extremely fine... for me annoyingly fine. It gave big ES's and no better velocity or accuracy than with H4350. I dumped the remainder of the 1 lb I bought and went back to H4350. I've yet to find a better all-around 30-06 powder.

Here's a couple of quotes from MD I saved a while back:

Quote
Have always used one of the 4350's for 165, and still have no reason to
change after perhaps 20 .30-06's. But have found Ramshot Big Game
really great with 150's (it is not quite as slow as the 4350's) and lately
have found Ramshot Hunter fantasitic with 180's, with tiny groups and
muzzle velocities of 2800+ with standard loads.

H4831 with 200's has worked well for 30 years or more, in many
.30-06's.

I mean 58 grains. Have tried this loads with various bullets (180
Sierra, 180 Nosler Partition, 185 Berger VLD) in three different '06's so
far and all shoot as well or better than they do with any 180, and muzzle
velocities have been 2800+ in every rifle.

The rifles: Modle 24 NULA, pre-64 Win. Model 70, and a Sauer 3000
drilling made in 2002. The first 2 have 24" barrels, the drilling 25".

Actually, no powder is totally temp-insensitive. Many are pretty good
in cold temperatures, and gain less pressure (and velocity) in heat. Big
Game and Hunter are about as good as anything I've tested, including
the Hodgdon Extremes.

VV 550 is a very good powder, as are all the VV's I've tried. But I can
get Ramshot a LOT eacier around here....

been meaning to play around with Ramshot Hunter this summer to see what gives...

Like Brad, I've had great luck with H-4350

I’ve tried Hunter in a few of my 30-06, keep coming back to H4350 for 180’s.
Hunter may work great; however, I’ve had such outstanding accuracy and velocity with any 4350 powders in the 30-06, that I see no reason to change.

There is perhaps no other powder/cartridge combination like 4350/30-06 that comes anywhere close to perfection IMHO.

It is the perfect marriage!

With 63.5 gr of Reloader 26 I’m running 180 gr partitions at about 2900 FPS .5” groups out a 24” SS Bdl in a Bell & Carlson stock that is not bedded just free floated. I’m happy as hell. I didn’t get to try my Ramshot Hunter. lol

Dixie Rebel,

I have probably shot thousands of rounds with both IMR4350 and H4350 in various .30-06s, especially with various 165-180 grain bullets. They both work great--have yet to encounter the same combination of consistent high velocity combined with accuracy that I have with Hunter, also in far more than one rifle. But whatever....

Somebody with initials MD told me it kicked ass in the 6.5CM.......he was right, again.

Hunter works well in the 260 Remington as well.

There was a DP 85 powder released as a surplus and I burned 8 lbs in the 30-06. Up to 61 grains with a 180. Loading info said to use Hunter load data so I assume it was equal or a bit slower. I have fused 60 of Hunter with 180 in the same rifle with no problem though undoubtedly max load. Run 58 now as suggested. My old chrony has given up the ghost so no reading. Very accurate.

I shot some 180s w/22" barrel the other day and averaged 2758 fps with book loads.
Magnum primers with hunter??

I've used both standard and magnum. Had no problems with either.

I use a 168 NBT with the Ramshot manual max load and get 2950 from my Weatherby.

I’m using hunter with 180 Sierra game kings. 59.5 gr. Never measured the velocity as it shot so great I left it alone. But I will measure them eventually.
With 165/168 I use big game .
