I plan to shoot my little Frontier a lot with pistol bullet loads.
Will mostly use jacketed and want:
1. A general purpose load with a 158-180 at around 2,000 fps,
2. A 125 screamer at max velocities.
3. A fairly quiet load with a 125 or lighter at around 1,000 fps.
Hoping Seafire might have some Blue Dot loads, as I just got a pound to fiddle with quiet loads in a .22/250.
It's been too many years to remember the charge weight and I doubt I have it written down but I do know that I used Reloder 7 with 158 grainers. The data was straight out of a Speer manual.
Dale
I run 38/H4895 w/158 JHPs.....actually dumped a few p/dogs with that load @ 200 yds....right @ 1900 fps
I got to poking around in my stuff and found a Speer manual last printed in 1994, orig an 87 model.
It had plenty of the screamer loads.
More worried about the mid-range and woods cruising/plinkers now.
Wonder if the good ol' 13 gr. Red Dot load would work OK with the 125s?
I had more or less stopped reloading once my kids started coming along, but ammo prices and some new calibers have rekindled my interest...and particularly like the quiet/turkey load idea for most shooting.
Tikka, I like the sound of that 1,900 fps load.
Got a lot more decade+ old 1 lb. canisters of pistol powders laying around than rifle powders at the moment: Unique, Clays, 231, Red Dot, Green Dot, HP-38, etc.
Would like to use them up first, while slowly buying kegs of new powder.
reloader 7 and H-335 always have good proven results with the ol 358 winchester..................
