Getting ready to load some 270 win 110 gr Barnes TSX bullets and barnes said to seat the bullets from .030" to .070" from the lands for best performance. I was wondering if anyone has load these bullets yet? I was going to start from .010" off the lands first, then seat the bullet deeper after I find the right powder load. I plan on using Reloader 17 powder. Any suggestions?
They shot good in my .270, but I smaked a deer in the ribs twice with one and he went out of sight..I caught up with him about a mile away from where I shot him and finished him off..both of the shots were in double lung hits, but those bullets didn't seem to do a heck of a lot of damage to be going so fast??? It sorta soured me on using the overly light bullets on big game. I think the 130 barnes X bullets work a lot better, at least for me they have...
Safariman and others including myself have found that the TSX's tend to shoot better when seated far off the lands. I would start with it seated pretty deeply and work outwards instead of the other way around. Let me know how that combo works out since I am about get my new .270 soon.

Thanks for sharing some info. I have a 300 win mag using 130gr Tsx seated deep like winmodel70 said with last visible ring showing. With my 243 win they are .018" off the lands.
I just check the max COAL and it's 3.303" touching the lands. Barnes post in their load data 3.240" COL. I might start like .070" and work out. I'll post my results after the weekend.

If it was me I would load up 3 at 56.5, 57, 57.5. Dont change the seating depth

I have been loading the Tsx and TTsx for about as long as they have been out and for several calibers including the 270 and 270WSM. And like you i started by following the Barnes advice about loading them .050 off the lands. I kept having ver inconsistent groupings so i started testing them just like i do any other bullet by starting at .005 off the lands and seating them deeper by .005 on each loading. To my surprise they began to shoot more accurately and more consistently CLOSER to the lands and each caliber tends to have a range of jump it prefers. I never experienced any pressures issues from the TSXs or TTSxs more than any other bullet by loading them close to the lands and my accuracy improved considerably. Hope this helps,

Nice shooting. What kind of velocities were you getting with those?
I just got a pro chrono about 3 weeks ago. I should have some velocities soon, I'm guessing around 3350-3400fps.
