Looking for suggestions, mostly for 180's but perhaps 168's as well. Also what primers do you like? Thanks

I have had great luck with H4350 and Federal 215 primers in the .300H&H with 165 grain bullets.

You also might want to take a look at the 190 grain Hornady BTSP and a good 200 grain bullet.

70 grains H4831SC / Fed 215 primer / 180-grain TSX or 200-grain SPEER flatbase / 2800 fps.

67 grains IMR 4350 / CCI 250 primer / 168-grain TSX / 3000 fps.

The 300H&H swallows chunks of coal and shoots good wink

That said, recently, I liked RL22 and 165's for about 3150;and back before RL22 was around I used IMR 4831 with 180's for about 3090 from the 26" tube of a pre 64 M70. If there is any 300 mag more tractible and user friendly than a 300H&H, I don't know what it is...................

Fed 215 is the answer to the question smile

My old 300 H&H thrives off some old milsurp 4831 with a 180 Nosler at 3140 FPS and 200 gr. Noslers at 3074 FPS with the same powder charge, and at mild presures. I can't quite get this with any other powders. Its the stuff that Jack O'Connor used in his .270..It will allow my 300 H&H to equal the 300 Wby but only with the heavier bullets. I could shoot either bullet faster btw, but my best accuracy is here.

If you don't have this powder and you probably don't as its all just about gone these days then I suggest IMR-4831 in liberal max doses for about 100 FPS or so less velocity. Any H4831 or IMR4831 will give good accuracy and velocity in most all 300 H&Hs as they seem to thrive on it, as does H870, RL-22, RL-19 and RL-15 in some cases....

Just got back from an Oryx hunt in Texas. I've been loading & experiementing with it for over 20 years. The load I settled on was 180gr TSXs behind 71gr of RL-22 @ 3000 fps cci-250s out of an pre-war 70. Sub half inch MOA, but thre rifle is amazing in that it shoots just about everyting to the same POI. Anyhow I whacked this Oryx at a less than ideal angle. Bullet went in abaft the last rib angling forward and came out just left of the opposite shoulder with total devastation and about a 40 plus caliber exit hole. It's going to Africa with me. jorge

These days a .300 H&H Remington Classic is my go-to hunting rifle. My standard load used to be a 165 Barnes-X over 70 grains of R-19. (Barnes has a habit of dropping bullets I've standardized on. I am still mourning the demise of the .375 250-X.) This load accounted for an aoudad and three exotic deer in Texas last spring. Dead and down. The Sierra 168 Matchking over 69.5 grains of R-19 is a good practice load in my rifle. I'm working up 165 TSX loads right now. One thing: I tried working up to max with R-19 and the 168 TTSX and got pressure signs even at minimum. This was at Barnes recommended OAL, which causes that long bullet to take up a lot of powder space. Still experimenting.
