Anyone try these yet at the range or on game?

I've got a .338 RUM.....Rem 700LSS 26" bbl. It's a tack driver and I LOVE it. Been whacking my bulls with a 250 gr. Partition Gold moly-free. TERRIFIC performance....but that Nosler is no longer made. Plus...it thumps a little.

I bought some 200 gr. E-Tips in hopes of reducing recoil while still penetrating.

Anyone have any info to offer or thoughts on my selection?

Drop down to a 185 gr Barnes TSX. My brother used them to great effect in a 338 WM on a plains game hun in RSA -- great penetration on some big animals.

The 200 E-Tips should work great. I would be surprised if you recover one except on an extreme angling shot.

I bought some and shot them today in my 338-06. 63 gr of RL-17 at about 2850. Aorund 1.25". I'll keep playing and may even be able to get 63.5gr. Will have to try. I loaded mine deep and will work out. Should be excellent on game.

Now I just need something to shoot!

Think I'll try RL22 for a starter and then RL25. However, I don't need the tightest groups possible as elk are big targets so I prolly won't spend a lot of effort on load development. I expect my rifle to shoot near 1" with this E-Tip.

BTW,I whacked a big bull in Colorado last fall with an offhand broadside shot at 180 yards. The 250 gr Partition Gold pushed by 90 grs of RL25 took out both shoulders penetrating completely. He hit the ground right on the spot without taking a single step, which is very rare for elk. He was lying there coughing up his lungs when I walked up and finished him. My previous two bulls were also older bulls and each managed to swagger about 20-30 yards after taking this same load thu one shoulder and lungs on quartering shots. One bullet penetrated completely, the other I found lodged in the opposite shoulder.

That 200 grain E-Tip may be a great bullet, but let's face it, it is not in the same class as a 250 grain Nosler of any sort.
They just are not the same bullets.

Just like the 200 grain Ballistic Tips. In my 338 Win Mag, they work great on wild hogs, just knocks the hell out of them.
BUT, in my buddies 338-378 Wby Mag, they blew up like a hand grenade. They were useless on hogs in that big gun, no penetration at all! You CAN over stress a 200 grain .338 bullet. We found that out in person!

The 338 cal 200 gr E-Tip is pretty impressive in the 338 RUM.

Nice info. Looks like a great bullet. That's a pretty stout test of a bullet. I wonder how it does at 1800-2000fps?

You realize the Etip is a mono? you cant put too much stress on it.

if you are going to shoot 200gr bullets would a 300 ultra with a much higher bc be better i find 338 benift in the 225 to 250grn range accubonds work well to unless you hunt in cale. i would think 200 will go fast but i would rather hit a tank with a freight train than a formula 1 car it your dission but just something to think about. dead is dead
