Shot some 150 NBT and 66 grains of RL 22 this weekend.
The accuracy was good but the velocity wasn't what I expected.
My average velocity was 2954fps.
Maybe I'm asking too much for a 24" barrel, Rem 700 but that seems a little slow.

Does anyone get better velocity out of Retumbo and 150 NBT?
I loaded 7MM Rem. Mag with Hornady 154 SP's, Remington brass, CCI 250 Mag primers and 75 grains of Ramshot Magnum and chronoed 3160 fps for 10 shots. This was out of a 700 BDL with a 24" barrel.
66.5 of RL22 pushed Barnes 145LRX at 3,100 for me with great accuracy. Granted different bullets, guns etc. but I'd say that isn't too far off what to expect.

Through my load testing, all bullets were slower than what I expected out of my 7RM. That's why I have a Mashburn reamer screaming at me to have it run up a barrel.
IMR 7828 perks in my 7Mag with a 24" bbl.

150 Ballistic Tips average around 3180 fps IIRC....

I've only shot Retumbo under 160 grainers...
I tried 65 gr of RL 22 with 160's a while back and got 2900fps from a 24" barrel. One source I looked at says I should be getting 3075. www.alliantpowder.com says 2976. Either way I'm shooting a little slower than expected too.
Retumbo will make all overbores shine w/ 28 to 30 inches of barrel grin

We started development with Retumbo and 154 interbonds.
at 70.0 grains the chrono said 3005 if I recall Correctly. 70.4 read around 3050 and 70.8 read over 3100 but had a sticky bolt so we settled on 70.4 being my max.
If the chrono was correct, I hit 3050FPS with 70.4 grains of Retumbo, 154 interbonds with Win Nickel and Win Mag Primers. That was out of my Rem 700 with a 26" factory tube.
I was expecting a faster round myself, that being said, maybe the chrono was off or maybe Retumbo isn't the best with 150's/154's. We will find out soon when we go to the range and see what happens. I honestly expect better vel out of my 7 mag. That being said, I see us trying Win Supreme 780 and Ramshot Magnum in the future.

Welcome to the weird world of the 7mm Rem Magnum. I have one and would never get another due to the unpredictabilty of their loadings. With 175 gr. bullets in my gun I have to use about 4.5 grains over the max. book load in order to get an acceptable level of velocity (but not the maximum the cartridge is supposed to be capable of.)

With your combo if RL22 does not work well, the other 3 powder's are IMR7828, VVN165 or H1000.
Retumbo would not even be on my list !!!!!

Id definitely try Retumbo, it gives the most velocity and I have some on hand.
These loads/velocities are an average of 5 shots from my Remington 700CDL 7mm Rem Mag 26" barrel.

150gn Swift Scirocco

71.5gns H1000..........3032 fps
67.0gns RL 22..........2979 fps
72.0gns Retumbo........3051 fps

154gn Hornady Interlock

71.5gns RL 25..........3076 fps
72.0gns Retumbo........3051 fps

150gn Sierra BT Spitzer

71.5gns RL25...........3098 fps
71.5gns Retumbo........2969 fps

I've tested and chronographed many other powders including H4350,H2213sc,RL19 and W780 and from what I could see RL25 followed by Retumbo were the best two powders for 150gn & 154gn bullets in my 7mm RM.

Nothing wrong with the 7mm rem mag, it's just the loading data out there for it is junk. It's been dicked with so much over the years that most of it is so watered down as to be useless.

I think you maybe right..

Seems like no one is getting the published velocities unless they go over book max.

Well before I run out and buy RL25,
Does anyone have any good velocities with IMR 4831?

Really ??? have you actualy shot your load's through a chronograph ???
64.7 gr of RL22 and a 162 AMAX gives me a nice one hole group at 100. Imagine my surprise when I finally got a chrono and it has a 149fps ES and 41 SD, over 20 rds!! My high was 3016 and my low was 2867.

Weight sorted my cases by .1 and will fire those strings separately to see if my numbers go lower.

Nope, only loaded IMR4831 & RE22, just going by Hodgdons manual.

The only load I have chronoed with IMR4831 was 60gr of it, 9 1/2 Rem Mag primers, Fed brass and 150gr Ballistic Tips.
velocity was 2859 and 2865fps, 2 shots from a Savage 110. I fired 2 shots over someone else's chrony, so have no other data for those loads, though my gun seems to like it somewhere between 60-61gr... waaay cold per book range (59-65) I have not had the chance to try heavier charges, but should expect to see tighter groups as I approach maximum
By looking at the large powder charges and slow velocities maybe the 7MM REM MAG should be the 7mm rem min frown
Retumbo pushes 175 grain bullets out the end of my Sauer 202 26" barrel just under 3100 fps. It's a lightly compressed load but not the max load listed. The powder is very consistent and the most accurate I've used in the 7mm Rem Mag.
Slim Sr, my 7mm shoots 3100 fps with 68 gr of RL 22 and 150 gr NBT's, I could not find any notes with a lower charge. It will shoot 150's faster in my gun without pressure, but it Is over book charges. I have gotten high velocities with RL 22 over IMR 4831.

This is getting old but try RL25/Fed215 with a 150grNBT. You should receive about 3150-3200fps, and superb accuracy.

If your 7RM does not perform with the above combo then sell it or rebarrel it.
