Bought some on a whim, and now I cannot find a use for it, haha. Looks like it is only compatable, or listed for a couple bullet/cartridge combos I load for. And even with those, it is way down the chart velocity wise.
I really like ball powders simply because ease of reloading. Is this one of their least popular powders? I see quite a few books listing "Big Game", just not Hunter.
Thanks.
What cartridges? From the data I've seen, it works well in about any "4831" situation. That covers a lot of territory.
Just not finding any data for it. Their data in the pamphlet they have is very limited. I thought it was pretty much just ball 4350, but don't even know a starting point.
I have a 6.5x55, 280AI, 338Win mag, and 243.
Looks like it is a good choice for a 243 shooting 95s. Was really hoping to try it in my 280AI.
Drew, Ramshot has s PDF file you can download. I have it on my phone. If you want, I'll see about emailing it over.
If you can't find a good application for it in 6.5x55 you're not looking hard enough. I find it a bit slower than the 4350's. More in-line with RL-19.
Give it go with 100g to 130g bullets in the Swede. For 140's up, go with RS Magnum.
Would like to try it with 123Amxes in the swede, but there is zero crossover data for bullets in that weight class from what I can find.
Gave it a try a few years ago and really liked it in my 257 Roberts. In that case with the 100 Hornady it was nearly identical with H4350. Maybe 15-20 fps difference with the same load weight and couldn't see any accuracy difference. Dropped it because I had about 12 lbs of H4350 at the time.
In other case/bullet weight combos I'm sure the burn rate will vary some. Mule Deer has listed it as a favorite in the 270 and 30-06 so that 280AI might work for you

You really need to look at the Ramshot data in their webite. It looks like Hunter was tailor made for your cartridges.
I have a .284 Win. and while using Hunter and 120g BT it was easy to duplicate Noslers data.
I took a quick look at the latest Ramshot data. I was a bit surprised by their charge weights. Only 44.5g for a 120g? Hmmm, I think I went up to 46.0g on a 129g SST and 48.8g on 100g BT. Ended up using 44.5g as the accuracy load w/ the SST, although it didn't quite give me the velocity I wanted (mid-to-high 2600's).
RS Hunter is probably the cleanest burning powder I've used in the 6.5x55 and meters like a dream. It definitely doesn't have the velocity potential of RS Magnum in cartridges were both are suitable. But it should be a fine choice for the lighter weight bullets in the Swede.

Absolutely, it's fantastic in all of those and I use a lot of it in my 243's. When I had a 338 I used it in that as well. I also use it in a -06. It's a good powder for many combinations.
Hunter is all I run in my 243's with 85gr TSX.
Ditto on that... VMAXES over Hunter are the schit.
There is hunter data for some bullets, but looks like it will be pure experimentation for some of the ones I wanted to try.
I believe I can start with 120BT data in my 6.5 for the 123 Amaxes and work up. Called Hornady, and they said they have zero data for the 123's in the 'Swede, and that they meant that bullet for the other 6.5's like the Grendel.

I'm not going deer hunting with a Vmax...but they do happen to list the data for my 243 for what I am using so it doesn't matter.
The pamphlet I had from Ramshot is older, and didn't have as much info. Thanks for the link. Wish they would list some 120 data for the 280.
I've no plans to run one into a deer either
just steel and varmints.
Lame about no 123 data for the x55. That seems like a great combo.
The "Hunter" in a 30-06 180 grn bullet like Accubond, Hornady, Sierra and Deep Curl are very accurate in my 06 like .75. I have measured feet per second and it pushes a 180 grn bullet 2800 fps with 58 grns of "Hunter". Very accurate and meters very smoothly.
This is my go to load and was introduced to the board by John Barness, he gets the credit for this great load. Buckfever1
I'm still working with it. I went in thinking that it was probably going to be 4350 class, but it looks to me like it is probably going to be on the slow side of RL19 when I get done.

been shooting 130 Accubonds, but those sure are pricey for plinking. On a positive note, looks like Hunter+130 Accubond is a lot faster than the H4831 I have been using. Going to test it to see if the accuracy is still there.
No doubt on the price of those ABs! I cringe buying boxes of them.
Hunter power works pretty dang good. I use it in my 30-06 with 208 amaxs 24" barrel. Getting 2710 fps with CCI 250 mag primer. Very nice metering too.
dogcatcher,
Hunter works great in any application where something between the 4350's and H4381 would work well. In many cartridge/bullet combinations it's comparable to RL-19.
Aside from the results some have alreaded mentioned in the .243, in the 6.5x55 it's great with bullets in the 120-grain range, and in the .280 AI with 140-150's. I've also had good results with 225-250 grain bullets in the .338 Winchester.

Good catch Trailrider. I use a Magnum primer with ball powders like Ramshot Hunter. Buckfever1
I have a 6.5x55, 280AI, 338Win mag, and 243.
Hunter & 210 Partitions is my hunting load in the .338 Win Mag. I also use H-4350 but Hunter gives better velocities.
Thanks for all the feedback. Excited to try it. I used to run W760 in some loads, but it got goofy in the heat of summer.
C ROY, pm sent.
Hunter and 225gr Partitions yield fabulous results in my 338WM.
Love it for 115 dtacs in the .243 as well as 110TTSX/110vmax in the .270. Im sold on the metering alone but it burns super clean as well.
How is it for temperature stability?
Cannot really comment on cold weather but the load was worked up in 70 degrees and did not show pressure signs of significant increases at about 100 degrees. Average velocity was right where it should have been and no overt signs of pressure.
Been using it in my 257 Rob, 6.5x47 and 30-06.
Alan
I've had great results w/ 30-06, 257 AI, and 6mm-250.
In the latter I'm getting high-243 Win numbers w/ great case life and fantastic accuracy from 90 gr Speers & NBTs. In the former, my best numbers from 165s w/ ok accuracy (1.5 MOA).
I love the stuff!
Ps- I'm working on loads for my boys' 243, too...
Mule Deer what powder weight are you using in the 6.5x55 you mentioned using Hunter and a 120 grain bullet and FPS? Is a Balistic tip enough bullet for the 6.5x55 and big Whitetails? Sure like this caliber. Thanks Buckfever1

I really get good results with Hunter in my 260 Remington with 120 grain bullets also. I really like it, and any other Ramshot powder when applicable.
Anyone have success with it in the 7mm-08?
It's worked well for me in a 7x57 Mauser with 120 and 140 Ballistic Tips.
Anyone have success with it in the 7mm-08?
Big Game is faster.
P
Used Hunter in the 7-08 with 150 Nosler BT. 49 Gr. got me 2730 fps in a 22" barrel. Accuracy was in the 1" range.
Anyone have success with it in the 7mm-08?
Yes, works well with 150 and 160 partitions.
I agree with Varmintsinc... works very well with light bullets in a 270
