David Christman called yesterday, my Mex Mauser will be on its way next week.
He forwarded a target well under 1" using 42.0 gr 4895 under a 140 grain bullet.
Honestly 4895 never crossed my mind for the 7x57...
Anyone have experience with this combo?
No Sir, but H-4350 is my huckleberry
Gunner
yeah, my "open country" load for my Model 70 Featherweight, in 7mm Mauser, is 44 grains of IMR 4895 and a 140 grain Ballistic tip or partition...
runs right at 2800 fps on the nose, out of the 22 inch barrel..
its a tack driving load, but this rifle shoots everything you feed it like it thinks its a varmint rifle...
No experience with the light bullet, but IMR4895 was my "go to" powder behind 175 grainers in the 7x57..
Ing, I don't know what MV you are getting with that... but on the Ruger I have, the ONLY powder that rifle seems to like is a charge of 40 grains of 3031...right up to the 175 grainers... got the load data off an older Hornady manual...
the Hornady manual also says that the MV should be in the 2400-2450 fps range... however chronographing mine.. with the bullet seated to magazine length... it says the MV is 200 fps faster than the manual says..
but since the brass ( Remington) never seems to show pressure signs at the primer pocket loosing any... and the accuracy is a tack driver... I don't worry about... I just use it..
get the same numbers and results out of the Model 70 Featherweight also..
Thanks fellas...
I'm open to suggestions as well!!
then 40 grains of 3031 is mine.. MV with a 175 RN is 2650 out of a 22 inch barrel..
While I do have a good supply of 175 Partitions on hand, there is no 3031 in the cabinet...
I imagine there's not much one couldn't do with that combination tho..
I haven't used IMR 4895 in the 7x57, but RL 19 and a 140 NP has worked quite well in my pet 7mm Mauser.
