Gents I found a beautiful custom rifle in this caliber built on a VZ-24 Mauser action, beautifully done including jeweling, etc on a Krieger fluted barrel and beautiful wood. The price is ridiculously low (500 bucks) but before I pull the trigger on it, I'd like to find out some more about it. I know you can make brass out of fire-forming 7X57 Masuser brass, but is there a source for this brass anywhere? thanks. jorge
It might be tough to tell exactly with improved version this is with out more info. or a chamber cast..I think Ackley had the 7x57 improved, the 7mm/06 IMP. and probably several 7mm mag.s also...that may be why it is so cheap....

it's a 7X57. The action alone is worth that/

What are you waitin' for? Plunk down the coin!!!

Forming cases is a breeze, unless your hung up on headstamp issues.

jorgeI,

My searches failed to turn up any NEW MFG. 7X57AI brass. However there's a ton of already FF brass out there for sale.

Buy a small batch if you choose too along with a set of dies and using proper loading procedures go forth and have fun.

If that's not the road you want to go down then fireforming is indeed easy and fun.

Denny.

George it is basically a 280Rem. It has been my main hunting rifle for 20 years. The fireforming process is easy w/dies or just get some factory corelokts and pull the trigger. Very sound case at 3000fps w/140's. powdr

Thanks, guys. I have some load data as well. Powdr, what are you using to attain that performance?

Jorge I'm using and have always used RL19 for all applications 140,150,160,& 175. I think the hidden weight in this caliber is the 150gr Partition.Still good velocity in this caliber and kills all out of proportion to it's weight.I have never hunted w/but one bullet mainly and that is the 140gr Ballistic tip because I'm in Texas and I'm limited to deer, hogs, coyotes, etc.I shoot 56.5 grs. of RL19 which is basically a 280 Rem load. I get 3025fps in my Rem 700 22in Douglas barrel.IMR 4350 will get you a few more fps but w/ more pressure and not quite as good of accuracy. The 19 delivers good velocity and accuracy w/less pressure per volume which allows one to push the envelope a little on the top end. powdr

IMHO, fireforming is one of the funnest "advantages" to having an AI'd rifle! Just another excuse to blow off some rounds, and my experience has been (limited as it may be) that the FF'n loads can be nearly or equally accurate as full power formed loads!

Sounds like you scored a sweet deal. I'm interested to see pics, hint hint...
