I have a Remington SPS Tactical with 20" barrel that loves Federal Premium Gold Medal Ammo with 175 gr Sierra Matchking HPBT's. I get nice little groups around an inch at 200 yards with it. I've tried the 168's and it doesn't shoot them as well. However, I hunt and wanted to use a hunting bullet of around 180 grains assuming (damn silly of me) that this rifle would prefer the heavier bullet just as it does for the Federal Premium Gold Medal 175s. Does anyone have any load suggestions using the Nosler Accubond 180 grain bullets for the .308 Win?
Thanks
Elk
I've run the 180 ABs thru my 308 with Varget, R15, and IMR4064 in the 44-45 gr range. Also stoked 49 gr H414/W760 behind it with good results. As always work up if you give these a try. I've also had an itch to try R17 and Ramshot Big Game. My 308 is in a commercial 98 so I can seat the bullets out around 2.9" OAL and as such I get a little relief from compressed loads.
I shoot 180 Solid Base Noslers in my 20" R77L when going out west. I have found 3031, 4064, BLC2 to be good powders in the 308, but I found Win 748 to give me the best combo of accuracy and velocity. Haven't had much experience with other powders in this round.
This basically true for the 5 308s I have worked with.
Work up each gun separately as each is different.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

My Montana 308 really likes Varget and 180 Noz solid bases for what that's worth.

Thanks Dober.

What kind of velocities are you getting with 180's out your .308's?

Varget/RL15... 2630+/-

2000MR... 2,680+

Both 22" bbl's.
Brad,

What does 2000MR do with 165/168's? Are you safely seeing 2800 out of a 22" tube?
2,800 is a snap with 200MR.
