I just purchased a Remington Model 7 SS in 7mm-08, any one have any pet loads for this little gun. Will mainly be used for mule deer/cow elk.
Kinda leaning toward the 140 Accubond?
I have shot a good many 140 gr . BT in front of RL-15 and varget in a little model 7
Certainly can't claim it as a pet load as everyone on the fire with a 7mm-08 seems to have tried it, but 45grns of Varget and a 120grn NBT is SWEET!
I jump shot a small buck this weekend with my model 7 SS 7mm-08 in Tennessee. As is often the case in this sort of scenario, shot presentation was not ideal. Buck was running uphill, quartering away. I shot and hit just above the right ham, 120 NBT penetrated through and through, exiting inside left shoulder. DRT...
Very accurate load, very mild recoil. I'm getting 2950fps which is a little slow even with the 20" barrel. No pressure signs at all, could probably bump the powder charge 0.5 grain, but I'm satisfied with on game performance as is.

+1 on the 120/Varget load Canazes9. Also, up to 46.5 of IMR 4350 and a 140 Accubond does well.
The 7mm-08 is easy to load for, I have yet to find a load that doesn't shoot accurately. Right now my hunting load is 50gr. of RL-19 with a 139gr. GMX or 140gr. TTSX (use the same load for both bullets), gives me about 2760fps out of a 22" barrel, which is pretty decent, and isn't even the max load, as always though, a proper load up should be done to see what load is fine for you.
What twist and do you have a preferred bullet? You mention a 140 accubond which is a great bullet. I lean towards the partition and many use the TSX/TTSX.
Im not sure what the twist is, and I am pretty sure it's only a 20 in.tube so I'm sure to loose a little muzzle velocity. Just kinda looking at the accubond
as it works well in my 300 rum. And has a fairly high b.c.
Does anyone make a 130grn bullet for the 7.
Thanks for all your advise.
140gr TTSX 42.9 Varget 2860fps
120gr NBT 44.5 Varget 2950fps
May not be the fastest loads but they are accurate in my Ruger.
48.0 grains H4350 or 42.0 grains varget with the 140 ptn, btip or accubond shoots well in my Abolt . They run around 2750 to 2800 , but all three shoot into same group at 100 .

It is a 1:9.25 twist, it will stabilize most any bullet you want to shoot with no problems.

It's been said before but didn't see it in this post---
120BT W/ 44gr R15 gives about 3000fps and is a lights out shooter in at least 4 rifles.
Next best is 47-47.5grs of H4350 and a 140 Partition. My rebarreled Marlin X7 shoots this into .5...
Use the 120 BT on everything!!
45.0gr rl15 with 140gr tsx... Another powder to use MR-2000 by alliant...
120NBT for deer and 120TTSX for elk.
Bullet - Hornady 139 gr BTSP (Part# 2825)
Case - Winchester
Primer - CCI 200
O.A.L. - 2.755"
H-4895 - 40.5 gr
(42.5 gr is maximum)
This combo gives me 1" 6-shot groups at 100 yds out of my Ruger Frontier.
Thanks for all of you input guys, I got some 120BT's coming, I think I'll try them first. sounds like the 7-08 is a very accurate round. cant wait till the weather clears up a bit so I can get out and shoot it.
Thanks Again.
Mike.
This kind of goes against the grain (no pun intended) of the other posters here but I like the heavier bullets in my 7mm-08. I'm using a 150gr Swift SII behind a load of Varget and have killed several deer and hogs with it. I also load this for a buddy who does some guiding, loaning his rifle to customers, and has shot somewhere around 30 hogs and deer, all with the same great results. So far, for us it has proven to be a good consistent performer.
I loaded 48.5gr of H-4350 under 139gr Hornady SPs in R-P brass with WLR primers for a pal's rifle (Savage bolt gun). He swears it's the deal on deer. Shoots sub 1" at 100 in his gun, gives a good quarter sized exit wound, deer don't go far at all.
Accubonds with h4350 cci br2 silver state armory brass or win brass but I like ssa better quality
I've only tried the 120 nbt in my 7mm08 but have lots of leftover bullets from loading 7 mags. I might try the 160 accubonds this winter just for fun. I was also impressed with how the worked on my bear this year.
The 120 nbt was the most impressive kill of all the deer I shot this year.
50 grains of Big Game behind a 120 grain TTSX or BT shoots extremely well and has accounted for several antelope.
44 grains of IMR 4350 behind the 140 grain Accubond also shoots extremely well.
I wouldn't hesitate to use these for deer or elk.
120 gr TTSX with Rl-15, Varget, 2000MR, or CFE-223 should get you between 2950-3100 fps in your 20" barrel and work for anything you care to hunt.
To answer your question, I think Speer makes a 130gr BTSP that would be cool in the 7mm-08. I think I remember Sierra making a 130gr HP but don't know if they still do.
As for the 120's, I've yet to find a powder as fast as CFE-223 in the 7mm-08 with 120's......I can easily achieve 3200fps with a 22" barrel and have seen 3300fps with no pressure signs.....I settled on 3200 for the accuracy!

2.725 OAL
Crimped with a Lee factory crimp die
Shoots a ragged hole at 100 yards
140 Ballistic Tip, 42 grains Varget, CCI200 primer---WOW!
139 Hornady SP, 42 grain IMR 4064, CCI200 primer---3/4" 5 shot groups
140 Accubond, 41.5 grains Varget, Remington 9 1/2, Same POI as the Ballistic Tip and very accurate.
Have fun!
139 Hornady SP, 44gr. IMR 4064, CCI200 primer... 1/2" 3 shot group
a little bit hard on my shoulder... w/ 700 Mt.rifle's skinny
recoil pad.
H4895, RL-17, W760, Varget, etc. would all work pretty well.
Bullet - Hornady 139 gr BTSP (Part# 2825)

O.A.L. - 2.755"
H-4895 - 40.5 gr
(42.5 gr is maximum)

Sorry, that O.A.L. is wrong, it's supposed to be 2.775".
Count me in the 42gr Varget and 140 Accubond crowd. Little groups and proven killers from a Tikka T3.
I'll pile on to the Ramshot Big Game/120 NBT recommendation. I run 49.5 grs. and that gets me just about 3100 MV. Kills the chit outta deer.
I too like a little heaver bullet in my 7mm-08. I have two "go-to" loads I use depenting on expected range.
1) Hornady 154gr Round Nose on top of 47.5gr H414 @ 2,735 FPS
2) Speer 145gr Hot-Cor SP with 48.0gr IMR4350 @ 2,830 FPS
Both of these loads shoot sub MOA in my rifle and I always get pass through shots. I have never recovered either of these bullets.
My favorite is the 154 RN. It is the most accurate bullet in three different 7mm-08's. It totally hammers whitetails and is excellent on hogs as well.
A couple of weekends ago I got two hogs with one shot at 100Yds with the 154 RN. Another hog stepped in front of the hog I was aiming at just as I fired. It was a broadside shot and the bullet hit the first hog in the head just in front of the ear, passed completely through, hit the second hog just behind and slightly below the ear (right where I was aiming) and again passed through. Both were DRT.

firstshot
count me in the varget crowd
43 gr varget
120 gr ttsx
2.8 oal
fed 210 m primers
norma cases
Going against the grain here, 120 gr TTSX or 120 NBT with 49 gr W760 (H414) gives me around 3100 out of my 24 in barrel and <.5 groups at 100 yds (Noler TGR rifle). I'm not at the max for my rifle though, but work up to this if you try it as it might be max in yours. Kills deer "graveyard dead," which is definitely better that just "dead," "stone dead," or "stiff as a board."
I currently have 4 lbs of Varget (unobtainum), and am going to try some of that with some 140 NAB just for fun. I wanted to try some 2000-MR or CFE 223, but didn't pick up any before the current run on powder. I'll wait until powders are back in stock and will give some a try.

Hello
Sako 85 22ic shoot like a dream.
norma Brass
Vihtavuori N550 speed over 2900 fps
Berger VLD
Sierra 140 gr SBT
Barnes 140 gr X-bullet
Man, I hate to dig into my Varget, can't find any
40.0gr H4895
139 SST seated to 2.730 COL
RP Brass trimmed to 2.035
CCI 200's
That has been giving me 1/2" groups lately.
My standard load is 48gr H4350 behind a 140gr of your choice.
Been running a load real close to this one, just a little hotter. It's been great, no pressure signs, and hammers deer with the 120NBT. I had a bunch of the H414 on hand so gave it a try and haven't messed with anything else. I got a couple of pounds of Varget last week so I may try the magic load when I get back to the reloading bench.
The load I use is slightly over the usual book max, but I have no signs of pressure - easy bolt lift, primers not flattened or cratered, no ejector cut marks on case heads.
Winchester 7mm-08 brass
140 grain Accubond
43.8 grains RL15
Federal 210 primers
Chrony says this is good for ~2875 fps out of my Kimber 84M.
My Tikka likes 49.5 grs of H414 and a 139 gr SST or 139 gr FB Hornady's with R-P brass and Federal 210 primers......2900 fps and .5" groups
Reduced load:
120 nos bt
win brass and fed 210
22 gr SR 4756
vel 2175 from Savage youth model
My best load is 140 bt or accubonds with 43.5 grains of imr 4064. Kills good and it keeps five shots on a four inch gong at 500 yards
