Picked up a LH Remington 700 VH Heavy barrel 22-250 in the HS Precision stock. Curious what bullet powder combos you guys have found to work well in this twist? What would be the heaviest wt bullet that would stabilize?

50gr TNT, 50 or 55gr VMax and 4064.

the short fat bullets will stabilize...the Sierra 63 gr SMP and the Nosler 64 Gr Bonded...

H380 and 4064 are your huckleberries....

Dont know about the heaviest, I shoot the 52 gr A-Max over 40 gr H-380 and a CCI-250 primer in RP brass.

40 grains of H-380 is my go to load for 50 thru 55's as well.

Should these also work in a 220 Swift with a 1-14 twist? I have a Pre-64 I'd like to do some deer hunting with this fall. I also have some 60gr NPT I plan to try.

May not be the cleanest powder, but it sure lays 'em in there.

My 14 twist XR100 22-250 does quite well with many loads, but 32.5grn of AA2015BR is my pet load pushing 52AMX, 55NBT, 52SHPBT, or 55BKs in Win cases lit by WLRs. It's the most accurate rifle I've ever owned, custom or factory. The funny thing is it's not even bedded and in a wood stock lol.

With a lot of the popular rifle powders being quite a bit harder to come by these days, would any of you fellas like to share some of your milder, lower velocity 22-250 load data using shot shell or other powders. I've got enough H4895 to last awhile for my standard loads but I'd like to throttle the vels back a little and come up with a friendlier pelt load use some 40gr V-Max's over an e-caller at 50 -100 yds. I used to use IMR 4227 for light load work but ran out and haven't been able to find it either. I'm also curious if any of you folks have been running the 40gr Speer sp. for pelt loads and would like to hear what you think of it and maybe get some light load data for it also.

BSA it has always worked very well for me. This is what my new Tikka did first time out. Load development was dump 40 gr of H-380 in the case and seat the bullets to roughly mag length.

34.5 Gr IMR 4895 55 GR Speer works great in my older 1-14 twist Rem 700 sporter 22-250. First load I tried most are under .5" 5 shot groups. 60 gr NP wont even hit target 2 ft X 3 ft and when it does all are keyholed, works fine in my 1-12 223 Rem.

4064 was great with 55 gr. bullet, but H4895 has been my choice for about 20 years.. Also the new 50 grain V amx or Blitzking..Both are great killers and very accurate.. I really never tried Gunner's load of H380.. But 380 was named by Hodgon for 38 grains of powder and a 55 grain bullet in the .22-250.. It must be good, but I never went that route.. old 3031 does ok too, especially when I picked up 11 pounds at $13/ can.. I had an old .22-250 shooter tell me he used what ever was around, but if he bought just for his .22-250 it was H4895..... With in reason, you really can't go wrong...

I wore out my first .22-250 with a load consisting of 50 grain Hornady SXes and 40 grains of H380.

The most recent lived its life on 50 grain TNTs and 50 grain SXes both over 37.5 grains of Varget. This is HOT but even a half grain drop changed the groups from the .2s to the 2.x-s and, other than the 55 grain TBBC over a max load of H4895, I never found another load that'd stay under 2 inches in that gun. So ... that's what I shot. Case life was good, primers were fugly ... like a toad under a steam roller.

In the Swift ... I had one that lived on 43.5 grains of H380 under a moly coated 50 grain ballistic tip. That was basically the only thing it liked .. period ... and it liked that pretty well. Another shot the 55 grain ballistic tip over 44 grains of IMR 4831 ... and blew primers like crazy with anything else. With that load, at 200 yards, the last "group" I shot was punching 3 of the 4 push pins holding the target to the backstop and missing the 4th by less than a quarter inch. So why did I sell it? 26 inch straight cylinder barrel in a short stock ... the balance point was beyond the front sling stud and it was just a booger to operate.

My Kimber liked 50 gr V-Max or Ballistic Tips over H-414. I now shoot the same bullets over Big Game. I have used the 50 gr TNT in it, but not in super hot loads. I find the 50 gr bullets give better terminal effects on prairie dogs and ground squirrels than the 55 gr bullets. The 40 gr versions of the V-Max and BTs work very well, but I don't need to hit 4000 fps.

W-760 and a 55 grainer rules

30 grains of RL 7, 50 grain TNT @ 3500 fps...

33.5 grains of RL 7, 40 grain Varmaggedon or Ballistic Tip at 4150 fps...

35 grains of RL 7, 35 grain NTX or Nosler 35 gr Lead Free Ballistic Tip at 4600 fps....

38gr H414/W760, Magnum primers and the 64gr Winchester power point. Is the most accurate combo I have shot. 24" rem 788 1-14" It likes a clean barrel. So I pull a bore snake through it about every 10 shots.

Blackdog - I can only find one lite load for jacketed bullets that I have used - 17gr imr4198 gave 2400fps in a Rem 700 with a 5ogr sierra with very good accuracy. You could start there with 40 grainers and cut back as accuracy/velocity directs. Got some good cast bullet loads if you are crazy enough to want to try that in a 22 centerfire (like I was back in the day).
