Just getting into reloading and my manual and kit has not arrived yet. Went to the local store and they are having a sale that ends tomorrow on powder. Looking for quick suggestions on what to use for 45-70 (300 to 405 grain bullets) and a 257 Weatherby shooting 90 to 100 grain bullets. Have a 100 dollar gift certificate from Christmas and figure this would be a good way to spend it. Just do not know which of the many available powders would be best. Thanks, TM

Reloder 7 is very popular for the 45-70. So is Hodgdon's H-4198. In case your gun likes slower powders than that, Hodgdon's H-322 and Accurate Arms 2015 are also noted performers in the 45-70.

Probably should say the 45-70 is a Sharps and the Weatherby is a Vanguard. TM

IMR 4350 is a good place to start with the 257 WBY. Was always my favorite powder. Also Federal Mag. primers....

RL 22 for the 257.

For cast bullet in the 45-70 Accurate 5744 is hard to beat, for cast or jacketed Imr 3031 has served me well.
Don't know much about the 257 roy but would think H4831 wouldn't be a bad place to start as its usually worked well in the other belted wonders I've shot.

For the 257Weatherby 4831 or 4350 or R22

For the 45/70 in a Sharps R7 or 4350 or Ac 3100
