Want to work up a load for a new to me pre-64, 300 Win Mag. In my Nosler #7, it lists 75.0-79.0 for RL22 and a 165 grain. Barnes is showing 68.5-76.1 for RL22 and the 165 grain TTSX specifically.

Does it make sense that there would be that much difference between the recommended load for the Nosler AB/BT/PT and the TTSX?

Will plan to go with the Barnes data at this point. Any experience with this specific load would be appreciated. Any advice on seating depth, off the lands?

Thanks,

Kurt
Over the years I've seen some pretty inconsistent lots of reloader 22 with some of them being pretty warm. Some 300 Win like my tikka have quite a bit of free bore and other ones don't. And different cases in the 300 Win Mag depending upon manufacture seem to have a pretty good variance of case capacity.
If I were in your shoes I would be starting right around 75 grains and getting it chronoed and go from there depending upon the velocity.
I'm at 74.5 grains of R22 over a Rem 9 1/2 primer and under the 165 TTSX in a Kimber 8400. That's 1/2 grain under Barnes #4 max for that bullet, and 5 grains under Lyman 50th with a 165 "jacketed bullet". I have no idea how I'm getting 3,200 fps out of this combo: I'd have thought I needed more powder to get there.

Anyway, with no pressure signs & excellent accuracy, I feel no need to push for more in this rifle. It's going goat hunting with me in October. grin

I'd blame my chronograph, but the readings have been consistent in several different light conditions. FWIW, the same chrony has shown many factory loads in other rifles to be far slower than what the box claims. Perhaps either my chrony is a contrarian, or it just delights casting aside my assumptions.

The guy at PACT told me he had never had anyone gripe about theirs reading to high. Hasbeen
I read somewhere that Norma MRP is the same powder as RL-22, just made with higher standards, more consistent lot to lot. I don't know. I have a can of Pw Pro 4000-MR to try in my .300 WM, it's pretty close in burn rate.

Current load is 74 gr. RL-22, 180 NPT/NAB, which is very good.

It's time to check out some other possibilities, like 168 gr. TTSX/200 gr. NPT, etc. May try H-1000/RL-26/Retumbo/Magnum with the heavier bullets.

Thank you gentlemen, I think I'll start in that 72-74 area and see where it leads me. Appreciate the input.
The 165 TTSX hammers deer and pigs, killed two with one shot. Bullet went through both. Pigs were 150 lbs
I shoot RL26 in mine with the 175 LRX. 80 grains is where it ended up. Great load
Saving the RL26 for my .270! 😬
80 grains of H1000 shoots great in mine with the 168 TTSX..
