Loading up some 125 NBTs and 125 SPHs. Hodgdon has W748 load data for the 125 Sierra but, on another webpage, recommends W748 and CFE223 for "heavy" bullets in the 308. For lighter "varmint" bullets (where I'd place the 125 grainer), it suggests H322 or H335. I have some H335, but I've been reading about excessive muzzle flash.

Anyone use H335 for 308 bullets on the lighter side?

At least someone is using it see attached. Never tried it can't imagine the muzzle flash being a major issue. Let us know how it works out.

I use a lot of H 335 or WC-844 as it was originally labeled. The cartridge and barrel length has a very definite result on muzzle flash and loud booming. Non at all with .223, 7.62x39, .30-30, or .358 and I can't remember any when I loaded a .308 which had a 24" barrel. There's a lot with 8x57 and .30'06 in carbine form but, with 24" barrels there is none.

I have not tried H335 in my 308 but used it a few times in my 444Marlin. And I can confirm it does produce a rather impressive muzzle flash, especially when compared to a more traditional 444 Marlin powder like H4198 which produces no muzzle flash. H4895 and Benchmark would be better suited for lighter bullets in a 308.

H335? Enjoy the fouling and temperature sensitivity.

If you have sons, and want to impress them, if they are in the 10 to 16 year old range...

Take them out at night in the woods or even open prairie, with no moon shining..

and then touch off a round, fueled by H 335.

The pyrotechnics with really impress kids that age....

even adults will stand up and take notice.

I've used 748 for 110 grain pills in a friends LTR. Excellent accuracy. Also used 748 for 165 SBT Gamekings. 1/2 moa at 600. For the 125's I had great accuracy with 4064. Intend to try the 125's with 748 also.

My only use of 335 has been in an AR and it produces very accurate loads.

I've been working up loads for a 308 Montana with 130TTSX. H335 produced the best groups so far but the muzzle blast is horrendous.

I had good luck with it in.308 with 130 gr bullets and a 7.65 Argentine with150 grs. I never noticed excessive muzzle flash,but then again,I am looking at the critters I shoot instead of the end of the barrel and I don't shoot critters in the dark.

Years ago Hodgon sold a lot of it as surplus powder. It came in1 # paper bags , l plastic coated and the instructions said use 3031 data.

It does cut down considerably on cooking time though.

748 in a 18" carbine rolls a nice fireball too. I would be tempted to look at CFE223 these days with the light bullets. Something like 3,200fps from a 24" barrel is on their online load data with 130's. TAC does pretty well too, from my experience.

335 can get flashy in some applications, but is quite tame in others, and it shoots very well when paired with components it likes. 'Dirty' is an overstated problem unless you're shooting PDs or ripping magazine-fulls all afternoon.
