My digital scale is wandering greatly so it's time to replace it. I have a lee balance beam scale and it's not user friendly but is functional. I think I want to go back to using that style tho so am looking at the RCBS 500. Any input for me? I want to get away from batteries and plug in. Only load maybe 200 rounds a year so the speed factor is a non issue for me.

Only 200 rounds per year may not justify it, but you wouldn't go wrong with an RCBS 10-10 scale. Mine of 35+ years has become like an extension of my mind.

Ohause if you can find one--

The RCBS 10-10 is no slouch, but the 5-10 is an excellent balance beam scale too. Bought mine from some guy in Salt Lake almost 30 years ago, and no telling how long he had it before me. Mine WILL remain on my bench, no matter how fancy an electronic scale I might ever acquire.

another vote for the RCBS 1010

I have an RCBS 5-10 and like it. I like the rotating counter weight with the micro type settings that lock into place.
My Lyman uses those cheap sliding punched sheet metal weights. They are easier to make a mistake with,
also,they can bounce out of position when you lift the pan. That changes your setting, and you may not notice.

Someone mentioned Ohaus, they made many of the better scales sold by the reloading companies in the past,
including rcbs 5-10 and 10-10

I've used a RCBS 5-0-5 that is badged Ohaus since 1974. I figure it will stil be going when I'm gone.

They are discontinued, but last I looked fleabay had a bunch of listings.

+1 for Ohaus/RCBS 10-10, bought mine off of eBay, never regretted the purchase is it a fine piece of equipment.

I've used the Redding, the RCBS/Ohaus 5-10 and most recently the Lyman/Ohaus M5. So far, the Lyman is my favorite.

I've used mostly a Redding for the last thirty + years but also have a 10-10. Both work great, but years ago I used two or three other scales, including a CH and an R.F. Wells. I've never run across a bad one; doubt they would last long in a competitive market.

I've been using a Hornady beam scale for 20yrs. It has given very accurate/repeatable results and is easy to use.

Yep, I like keeping it simple as well. Mine is an older RCBS Ohaus too. I would not buy a newer plastic cheaply made 5-0-5 scale built now days. I recently sold a spare RCBS 5-0-5 scale that I was hanging on to, only because I figured my old one would last me a lifetime.. If I were to ever upgrade, it would be to the bigger 10-10. I don't really see the need to though..
