I spent the long weekend cleaning out my reloading cabinet. In 30 years Ive accumulated countless partial boxes of bullets that never seemed to make the cut for hunting. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are a few that always seem to perform WAY out of proportion to caliber and weight in certain applications. Three that come to mind are:

6mm Sierra 85gr HPBT (deer)
7mm 120 gr NBT (deer)
.270 150 Partition (anything short of dangerous game)

I'm not saying that any of them are the best choice for a particular animal, just that they seem to significantly outperform anything of similar size.

Any others?

Can't argue with your observations. Ill add the .30 Nosler 180gr ballistic tip. It way outperforms its price tag. Especially at 30-06 velocities.

I haven't tried that combo. How hot do you load them?

The 6.5mm 130gr Accubond seems to be designed very well. I've found it to be a stout little bullet that penetrates deeply and isn't hard to get to shoot.

On another note, one thing I do like about the moderate rounds like the 7mm-08 and .308 are that they allow medium-weight cup&cores to be awesome performers. I've yet to see a 165 Fusion/Interlock/Gameking/Ballistic Tip fail to do its job at 308 speeds.

No mention yet of 180gr Partitions? It's the consummate 30 cal big game hunting bullet in 30-06 and up.

Partition bullets in any weight are good. The 125 gr 6.5s are great on deer and pigs. I like them in my 264 Win mags. Haven't tried them in a Creed yet.
