Starting my load workup with a goal to get 3250 safely with accuracy....Couple questions to start.

1. A few reccomendations have me starting at 64-65 grains and working up - is that safe starting point? Expect to be in the 66.5-67.5 range when all said and done. (will be using fed 215 primers)

2. Typically, does the ackley like to be seated far out or in close? I have had accubonds like both and am planning to start loading at 3.330 as my rifle has plenty of extra room in the magazine/chamber.

Thanks
I recently worked up a load with RL 26 and 160 gr Accubonds. Most accurate was at 61.5 grains. Velocity at 3010. Seated to 3.340 COL. Using quickload, which has had the burn rate adjusted to my current lot of RL 26, it shows that with the 140 gr Accubonds, you should top out at 65.5 grains and velocity at 3247. Of course you should work up to that and verify.

I had better luck with RL23 with 140'S and 162's
I just stick with what works. I have two of these in this caliber. One is set up for 140 Accubonds, the other 160 Partitions. I tried a number of different powders in with the 140s. However IMR 4831 58.0 grains with a Federal 210 works the best. Sub 1" groups at 200 yards. I can max it out at 60 grains but they spread out. Getting 3150 fps. Seat the bullet at 3.250. for what its worth...

Sigh..........

With 140's, RL 22 & 23 seem to produce better velocities for me. Planning to work with RL26 on a load for heavier bullets real soon.

What would be a good starting load with r23?

It’s not mentioned here but I believe heavywalker was getting 3175+ with 140 AB and RL17

The Nosler book load of Re22 with 140s gets 3200 or so in my Montana. H4350 is my cold weather powder, but I'm listening to this thread for other alternatives.

Sweet! I do love me some rl17. Rl26 is fast becoming a favorite in the 7 Remmy mag as well. Currently burning rl19 in the 280AI and 140 TTSX. Shoots great, but I'm betting rl17 would turn in better velocity.
