Wondering if anybody is using these combos with a 22" barrel and what you're actually seeing for velocity:

I have some old notes regarding loads with the 150 TTSX in a couple of 22" .308s...

In a Model 70 Extreme Weather 44 grs. H4895 gave 2820 fps. In a New Ultra Light Arms Model 20, 47 grs. Varget did 2878. 47 grs. 748 showed 2860, but rifle is not listed in my notes; could have been a Kimber 22". I've tried many powders in .308s but usually go back to H4895 for all bullet weights between 150 - 180 grs.

I realize untipped bullets aren't popular these days because of the ballistic coefficient fad, but generally, I've seen slightly better accuracy with the regular 150 TSX BT bullet.

I recently loaded for a Model 88 Win. in .308 (that I gave my son), with a 22” Barrel. I was using Varget, velocities we’re running in the upper 2700’s to lower 2800’s with the 150 TTSX’s. Was hoping for a little more,but.... memtb

For the 22" 308 I get lower to mid 2800's with H4895 and Varget. If you want to speed things up then CFE223 is worth a look.

Agree with Mathman, or Alliant 2000MR. Both will give 50+ fps over Varg/H4895 with 150s in a 308. Wife used 140 gr TSX in her 7-08AI, running about 2940 fps out of her 24" barrel. That was with a std 7-08 near max load (48.5 gr) of W-760 powder. IMO, you can realistically get very near 2900 fps with a 7-08 140 load and maybe another 30-50 fps over that with a 308 150 load.

Is CFE-223 the same powder as Pw Pro 2000-MR?

A few 308s I have done with the 150s were in the low-mid 2800s. Frankly though, there's nothing a 150 will do in 308 that a 130 won't do better if you're using monos. A 130 at 3150 is pretty easy to do with Varget and that's a nice speed to run them on Bambi. Personally, I'd be happy to use them on anything in North America.

I've had good luck with the plain ole 130 gr. Hornady. At 3K+, it'll kill a WT with thru and thru penetration (with a chest shot), lots of damage in between. Mostly DRT.

30 cal 130s tend to be less sturdy. The TTSX or TSX are both plenty sturdy for anything. They won't come undone at 25 feet and they still work perfect at 300 yards. Those Point Blank shots even with a sturdier cup and core 150 can get to be problematic.

Can't argue about the TSX, TTSX, although I perfer the latter. They generally are really accurate and effective.

I like them with very fast rounds, like the 26 Nosler. At those speeds, they do tear up a good bit of meat, but won't blow up.

Even though they don't have a velocity ceiling per se, they can become pretty destructive when pushed hard.

I used the 130(T)TSX out of an -06 on everything for awhile there. Never recovered a bullet on any shot angle through a deer.

The 130 TTSX out of a .308/'06 is a great combo.

Don't forget about Cutting Edge Bullets. They're kinda pricey but just for hunting, I don't use that many.

Those Cutting Edge Raptors look awesome, but I have never tried them out yet.

I read they can come apart too quick if they hit brush, which makes sense. I use them in open country.

I've posted this before, a young sow I shot with the load posted. Hogs generally run with a chest shot, but I shot this one in the chest to see how the bullet would perform. She dropped.

You can see, the spine is chewed up by the petals, was not in direct path of the bullet.

My Varget load for the 150 TTSX is getting 2,894 fps out of a 22' Winchester Extreme. I'm using Fed 210M primers and an older batch of Remington brass. No signs of excess pressure and great accuracy.
