Headed to the range chronograph in tow to see how these would do today. Temps were hovering around 15 degrees today. Packed extra 9 volt battery for my Chrono. Anyhow these were safe in my rifle, but work them up in your.

Good info, thanks
Wow, most velocity I have seen with RL 17 was 2720 22" Barrel be nice to see what pressure Quick load showed?

Over on nosler forums they have quick load on rl 26 and 180’s and 200’s Also beretz has info on the 200gr bullet in the 30-06. In the pet load thread some quick load data with 210gr accubond. Anyhow from what I was able to gather my load of 62.0grs is close to 63k according to quick load. I don’t think you can get enough of rl 26 into the case to run into any issues.
Hell of a job, nice work 79S, I've only shot 5 or 6 Elk, and have assisted on a couple, but, an accurate 2800+ fps with a 200 gr Accubond looks to me like the old '06 could indeed be a 500 yard Elk rifle if the need arose to shoot that far. smile

Cant think of anything in your state that wouldn't handily put down either, these new powders are a hoot playing with for a bunch of rifle loonys.
The 200 gr Partition has more bearing surface area than the Accubond, correct? Wonder what could be achieved with the 200 Partition and 26.

I was working up some loads with a Hornady 212 grain ELD-X....

the max amount of RL 26 you can get in a case, and allow it to be magazine fitting
is like 53 grains...

called Hornady, and they said that the bullet is so long, that in reality they recommend to
single feed it into most bolt action 06s unless it is a single shot rifle, like a Ruger Number 1.

they were recommending powders no faster than the 4350 burn rate...

RL 26 is like the burn rate of H1000 it seems...
Posted By: 79S Re: 30-06 200gr AB with RL 26 - 02/09/18
RL 26 is close to imr 7828 and RL 25. Hornady manual they are getting 2650 with superformance powder using that 212gr eld-x ..Superperformance is considerably slower than h4350 but close to h4831. Anyhow they recommend a COL of 3.400 with the 212 ELD-X in the 06. That setup would not work upon my 06 that’s for sure. Far as AB versus Paritions I like the Accubonds and Partitions but nosler has a bunch of 200gr AB seconds for sale. Next time 200 partition pop up will snag some of them to try.
Posted By: 79S Re: 30-06 200gr AB with RL 26 - 02/09/18
Also was getting 2815 with 180gr partitions, noslers max load of 62gr of RL22. That’s nothing to sneeze at either.

LOL, you're old rifle is probably thinking the same thing a young gelding horse thought when he left his life of leisure here on my farm, sold him to a cowboy that works his ass off everyday. laugh

Dont worry about your old M-71 BSA, I'm treating her right ;]

Looks like a good load
Dang 79S that is smoking….I may have to give that a whirl in my brothers 30-06 as well!!! Good info. Thanks for sharing.

Buddy is running the 200 AB with RL26 in a 20” suppressed 30-06. That sucker shoots little 3/4” groups pretty easy and runs 2720. Really makes the old 06 look mighty different!

Reloder 26 is quickly showing to be a great powder in several calibers. It is my go-to in my 6.5 cm and also does well in my .260. I may have to try it in the old '06, too.

Interesting, now wishing I would have kept my stockpile of 200 partitions.

RL 26 is too slow for use with bullets heavier than 200 grain, in an 06...

at least the Hornady ELD X and ELD Ms....

length of bullet and bulkiness of powder, doesn't give optimal velocity....

at least in none of my 06s...

was kind of a disappointment in my attempts of use with the heavier bullets...

... use superperformance that’s what hornady is using to get the 212gr bullet upto speed. Nosler on the other hand using RL22 with there 210 Accubonds so no doubt RL 26 will work upto 60grs according to quickload. I just posted this as info and help folks out. Everyone going to have different results..

It is really good in a 270 Win BSA. Same for the 7 Rem Mag and 338 Win with 225/250’s.
In my Winchester Featherweight with 22" barrel 62gn of Rel 26 pushes the 200gn Accubond to 2633fps
The same charge behind the 200gn Partition chronographed 2695fps, both using Fed 210's and Winchester brass.

Now that you gave it your stamp of approval and two thumbs up BSA is buying all the RL26 in his local area..

I didn’t do it with any of mine but my partner here used his 70, with 26 and 160 ABs. With a 26” barrel he was kicking along at nearly 3150 and it shot like crazy. I have used it a bunch in the Mashburn and it works great there as well with 130-175’s.

COL 3.335 is the sweet spot in my model 70.
I'm amazed by all the threads that are titled "Cartridge X and RL26".

May give it a try with both the 180 and 200 Partitions in the Biesen.

Agreed. Its been great for velocity and accuracy in the 22-250, 6.5 CM, 7 WSM, and 300 WSM is what I have tried in in thus far personally. It also pushing 162 ELDX at 2700 fps out of a 24" 7-08 my buddy loaded up for it while I was working up the 7 WSM load. Cool to see there is great potential in it with the 30-06. Will be dorking around with some in that cartridge soon I hope.

Fwiw, I used to shoot the old 162 amax with 46 grains of RL17 for about 2725 out of a 22" 7-08 back when I had one a few years ago. Quickload estimate was that 2750ish would have been absolute top end. One of the guys ran a Quickload for me the other day just for curiosity, and that program thinks you should be able to get 2800 at 60K psi with RL26, if you could get enough in the case. It also thinks 2700 fps is possible with the 180 ELD.

Yep, I remember trying it in the 270 with 150gr. partitions. Still amazed I was getting close to 3,000 fps with that pill in the old pre 64 22" fwt tube... "It's good chit maynard"... I will be giving it a try in my old 06 rifles. One is a short barreled sob, so it's going to be cool to test out the speeds with the good ol 200gr. partition, that that rifle loves..

Great Info. Thanks I don’t own a 7-08 but I will pass it along for him to try. What was the quickload fill volumes for those charges. I can’t recall what load the mat got him to 2700 but I do know there wasn’t much space in the case left.

Well, I specified that it be run at 2.900", so keep that in mind. At that seating depth, it looks like Quickload estimates 50.98 grains would be 113% case fill for 2806 fps and 60,290 psi from a 22" barrel.

I sold my 7-08 years ago, so I can't tell you how much might fit. But I can tell you that 50 grains of RL26 fits in my Norma .243 brass pretty easily...

The 180 run, also at 2.900", estimates 49.71 grains at 112% case fill for 2705 fps at 63,286 psi from a 22" barrel.

Sorry for the derailment. Although a 7-08 is basically just a small 30-06. Same SD for the same velocity with the same powders, for the most part. Just like they're both just small 338 Win Mags...

On the subject of 30-06's with 200 grain accubonds, one of my M70 featherweight's favorite loads is 54.5 grains of RL17 behind the 200 Accubond for a bit over 2700 fps. That's the first load this rifle ever consistently grouped under MOA. I'm currently out of 200's, but I did load up some 180 BT's with RL26 to try out based on successful results by a member on another forum. Looks like 2900+ should be possible with 180's, even with my 22" barrel.

Thanks well within the 65k as mule deer said with 06 you get leeway because they load 06 tp 60k compared to 65k for the 270.
Tried RL 26 , RP case, CCI 200 primer, Nosler 200 GR Accu Bond, 22" Ruger LH 30-06 34 F . So so accuracy. Mild pressures.

59.5 GR RL 26 2520 FPS, 60 GR RL 26 2533 FPS, 60.5 RL 26 2560 FPS, 61 RL 26 2572 FPS, 61.5 RL 26 2587 FPS, 62 RL 26 2622 FPS.

RL 17 55 GR, Fed 215 Pr, 200 GR Nosler Accu Bond 2710 FPS, same rifle better accuracy.

Felt recoil a lot more with RL 26 than RL 17. Going to stick with my RL 17 loads.

I got my stuff dialed now I’m down to deciding on primers. Right now it’s between WLR or FED 210. CCI 200 was the worse grouping of the 4 primers I tried. The other were rem 9 1/2. Also seating them at 3.330 for the Fed 210 and 3.335 for the WLR. You will be surprised what happens when you switch primers. Anyhow I’m using this rifle as is with these 200gr AB for my DS102 sheep hunt.
