I thought I would play with some of the jugs lying around the place, and got out the .270. Kind of an old school vs new school theme. On one hand is the latest sexy silver tipped offering. The other is the old production dual hot cor Grand Slam. Both of the 130 grain variety. The charge was 53 grains of rl17 from the 24" Kimber. Jugs were in front of the 100 yard backstop. On both firings, the front jug was a rather robust detergent variety, the balance were common milk jugs. Water was of course the medium. Both bullets were recovered in the fourth jug.

Two very different results. Both held up like a good bonded bullets should. I weighed them, but don't have the numbers in the house. Ill get them from the man cave next trip out. One very wide smooth rivet, one narrow rivet with little fingers of jacket. Kinda wish I had more of the old Speer bullets lying around. I have a dozen or so 150s,and maybe 15 of the 130s. Just may have been ahead of their time.

I bought up a bunch of the new construction Grand Slams recently. Great prices, and can't be all that bad for soft little whitetail. I have one of the 130 grain loaded up with the same charge to try when a detergent jug comes up. Patience. My daughter wants to catch one of her Creedmoor pills too. Not the most scientific test medium, but it's good clean fun for Dad and his girl.

Awful pretty mushrooms there. Can’t comment on the Speer, but every mushroom I’ve seen from the new TBBC (Trophy bonded tip) has been textbook pretty.

If you use the direct link with IMG tags, the pic will be much bigger than the direct link, if you didn't know.

I have some of those 130's Trophy tipped bullets to try in my 270
