Wondering what’s the value of older 700s, not sure if age adds value or not. Never an issue, shoots incredibly well (sub-moa even with cheap factory ammo).

You have a commone rifle in a common chambering. Not particularly any added value. I'd say a few hundred bucks.

You could "possibly" get $500 in the right place. Do not sell for less than $350, w/o a scope! People love that .308 in a good Model 700.

Seen lots of them in pawnshops for $375.

308 BDL 700s are not especially common. IMHO they can be a sucker to come by.

While it's the earlier pressed checkering version some won't value it as highly.........I'm a bit at a loss where others are getting their estimates.

If you can buy a 700 BDL Remington (factory wood monte carlo stock w cheekrest, black tip on the forestock) unaltered in decent shape in 308 Winchester for 500 bucks.........grab it.

*While NOT the pressed earlier pressed checked version* a few have closed on GB in the past few months. Serial number prefixs ran from A to C so........70s-90s rifles (roughly)

Two at 950 (plus shipping) one had a VX-III 4-12x.......one stated the scope and mounts were not included. Still went for 950.
Another at 855, and the lowest, standard issue, non-bull barrel 308 BDL closed at 708 bucks.

A left hand one went slightly less and one bull barreled one went for a bit more than that one.

Two ......did not sell. A VERY early (63-64 style checkering) one for 600 and one listed for a grand also got no bids.
So yeah........If not for sinking all my fun money in my current set up and my limited income.........500 for yours? Any time.
(In fact I WILL have that in a month........just saying. lol)

A little more info on condition would be required but if decent at all? 500 is ROCK BOTTOM.

NO offense to the others who posted....... but it took me months to find A..... 700 308 and it was an ADL, not BDL.......that cost me 400.
I sold it for 465.

I believe Steve hit it on the nose. I prefer the pressed checkering 700's BTW. I'd say at least $550 +/- $50. $600 would not be too much for that one, I think. Especially if the mounts are included.

BDL's bring about $100 more than ADL's, in general, IMO.

If it were a 30-06, 270, 243, 7mm RM you could deduct $100 or more.

In these days of crazy Corona fueled buying, who knows what it might bring. My first Model 700 was a 25-06 with that same style stock. There are folks who desire the early Remingtons over more recent ones. A friend of mine is in that camp. He's a sucker for any older 700 and has a bunch of them.

That said, my guess as to value is also about $500. Yes, the older Remingtons are somewhat desirable, but you can buy a brand new rifle with a one M.O.A. guarantee for $350.

Bought this 73 model for 400 in the classifieds. A 30-06. It is like new!

The older M700 rifles had the safety lock the bolt I personally like better than the latest versions which don't. I think they changed to that in 82 but I could be wrong. I have owned about 6 M700 rifles. One that doesn't have any letters in the serial number that locks down the bolt I had 3 from the early 80's 2 of which have gone down the road but not because they didn't shoot well.One from the 90's I replaced the trigger cause it had more creep that an insect and the latest had to go back to the factory during the XMARK recall. They have all shot well. Even the rifle with all the creep after the trigger repair

There are those who found some better than others I think those built prior to 82 may be a bit better and perhaps more worthwhile to some but not everyone. But they have just as much potential to be shot out and damaged if you can pick up an old school .308 win for less than 500 I would buy it I've been told I can get 900 for a 222 CDL from the same time frame.

I just sold 7 mm Remington Magnum 1973 with Leopold VX II scope privately for $780.

Just a few months ago bought from a Campfire member a high condition (95%+) 1971 M700 BDL 270 with a period Bausch & Lomb Balvar variable scope for $725.00 shipped. Was very happy to get it.

It seems to me that the older actions-and overall rifle-are better quality. I am not concerned about how rare it is etc., etc. I am not a collector. I buy a rifle for its perceived quality and functionality. It is a tool with a purpose.

I bought a fairly old Rem 700 ADL, synthetic stock, .243 off here for $325 delivered. It was purchased as a donor action for a Criterion 6.5 Creed barrel. It is a fantastic shooter, now, and I have relatively little money invested in it.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. To me, I would not give you over $500 for it, but that is just me and my reasoning.

GarageSpecialty: Indeed that vintage Remington 700's were known for their very good accuracy!
Back around then I took a factory original Remington 700 in caliber 308 Winchester and made it into a "Mountain Rifle" (by simply screwing it into a Browns Precision lightweight stock!) and proceeded to Hunt the wet/rainy/moist country of western Washington and SE Alaska.
I still have that Rifle and wouldn't even consider selling it - my Rifle is way above average accuracy wise and is a pleasure to take along on back country ventures.
Among other game I have harvested wit it is an all time records book Boone & Crockett Mt. Goat I shot in 1982 (SE Alaska).
If I were you I would keep that accurate, useful and reliable Rifle/caliber for yourself - just a thought.

If it were mine, I wouldnt sell it for less than $500, my guess is at $450 it would sell quick.

In the southern Rockies it’s worth $450-$550. .308 is a fairly desirable chambering and not common in the earlier 700’s.

1974 is when Remington added the “anti-bind slot” feature on the bolt and receiver. The absence of that feature is my only complaint about the older 700’s.
