I've been shooting 130 gr and 135 gr bullets in a .270, but have been thinking of giving these, Sierra 140 gr HPBT, a try. Deer and hogs are the 'big game' in north Louisiana. Anyone using this bullet and how do you like it?

Better add this.... If anyone had bad results with this bullet, let me know, also.

it and the 140 grain Ballistic tip were my two "Go To" bullets when I hunted with the 270...

The 140 grain Sierra has to be driven hard to perform its best....its a tough bullet.

Dropped a couple of BIG northern whitetails with it back in my MN days...

That is about as big of an animal as I used it on....they were always accurate..

Brother in Law loaded them for me using H4831SC... he shot the same bullet...in fact he was the one
who introduced me to it....

I shot them for a season or two from a .270win, before I sold that rifle. They gave me bigger exits and better blood trails than the 130 Ballistic Tip I had been using. It did seem like they hung together pretty well but opened fairly wide.

Only bullet I could get to shoot good out of a picky Kimber 270 wsm.
Held up well on 200# deer at 3050 FPS .

Interesting that Sierra markets those as a close-range bullet. They are hollow points, but have heavy jackets, fairly hard lead cores, and very crap BC. I've only used a few. They exited on broadside shots, and tended to shoot accurately.

Thanks to all for the replies. I shot a few at targets when I was working up a load for my 270, but this was 15 years or so ago. I was having trouble with load development and a friend gave me some to try. They shot about like everything else, and since nothing shot very well, I didn't try them anymore. I eventually had the barrel bedded and that did the trick. I developed loads for the 130 and 135 grain, but never the 140's.

Gonna order some and give them a try.

I use the Sierra HPBT Gameking bullets in the following calibers, 243 85gr, 257 90gr, 7MM 140gr, 308 165gr, I love these bullets, been using them for along time and wont be changing anytime soon. there accurate and deadly. Also use the 22 calorie 65gr Gameking in the 223 with excellent results but it's not the HPBT design

Great bullet, but you rarely hear anyone talk about them in this era of ‘designer’ bullets. They shot great out of my Dad’s 270 Ruger UL.

They shout great, you don’t hear anything bad about them. That tells me they are good!!

I loaded them up for my Remington 700 ADL in .270 several years ago. I thought they would be good pills for killing west Texas muleys. WRONG! I shot a big buck with them not once, not twice, but 4 times before he finally dropped. The first shot should have killed him, but the bullet blew up. The 3rd shot finally penetrated enough to get the lungs and the fourth one blew up as well.

I haven't shot hollow points at big game animals ever since then.
