Since this was the very first short mag has anybody tried any RE-17. I can't find any data on it

The only thing I've used in the 350 Rem Mag is IMR4320. It worked well enough, and I didn't look farther.

IMR4320, IMR4895, H4895 or RE10 would be a better choice.

Ramshot TAC can give a bit more velocity. Contact Ramshot for data.

like I said tac is your friend !

I’ve had good luck with H-4895 and IMR-4320 and the Nosler 225 gr Partition and also the Sierra 225 BTSP.

TAC didn't work for me. The best I've found is IMR-4320. The powder companies don't test this old cartridge. Too bad

I've tried TAC and had pressure problems. Went back to RL15. 4320 seemed to work very similar to RL15. Same in my 8x57.

Here's some old data from way back in 1999. The rifle is a Remington 700BDL .350 Rem Mag with 24"bbl.

225gn Sierra 58gns of Varget........2671fps
225gn Sierra 57gns IMR4320.......2675fps
225gn Sierra 57gns IMR4895.......2705fps
225gn Sierra 59gns IMR4320.......2709fps
225gn Sierra 59.5gns IMR4320....2718fps
225gn Sierra 58gns W748...........2669fps

My results were amazingly consistent with dingo. In a 700 with a 24" barrel 59.3 gr. IMR4320/225 gr. Sierra gave 2740 fps and 8.0 S. D. based on a ten shot sample.

If you're shooting 225 gr. Sierra Game King of Nosler BT you might want to try IMR 4064, those bullets shoot very well in my .35 Whelen with 4064. 200 gr. bullets give great accuracy with IMR 3031 in my Whelen, don't know if either powder is applicable in the .350 Rem Mag you might want to check it out.

I think Reloder 17 is way to slow-burning. My best results in the .350 Mag were with 8208XBR. For a starting place check out Hodgdon data for the .35 Whelen which has a very similar case capacity.

Cheers,
Walt

For whatever reason most load manuals favor different powders for the two in spite of the similarities. I don't know if there is a real reason for this, or if it is only because they quit developing data for the 350 in 1974.
