Well, I decided to run one of these into the jugs. Just pulled two cases and sized them, added the same charge of 46.5 RL26 and didn't touch the seater. They were spot on at 2.915", same as my current lot of 147 ELDs. Anyhow, I shot one over the Magnetospeed for a 2753 reading.



Jerked the MS off the gun and shot into the jugs..



The jacket was laying in between jugs 4 and 5, but there was a small dimple on jug 5 where something slipped inside and I found a chunk of the core..

Nice! I really didn’t expect either one to hold up as well as they did at basically point blank range.

Looks better than the 270 145 grain I ran into the jugs. Lost more weight than Marie Osmond.

Ran a 143 grain at 3000fps through an elk bone and it shrapneled in the first jug at 40 yards

I’d believe that. Elk bones tend to turn great bullets inside out. Seen front leg bones eat up 180 Partitions a few times.

NICE! and not to deflect too much, but, I just completed annealing, FL sizing and trimming 300 sticks of 338WM brass, about to head out to the shop and work up new loads with the 250gr partitions for two bolt rifles, I love this damn hobby we have!

Absolutely. But the vitals on the other side of the bone would have been destroyed. Also did a 140 berger and it acted the same. 142 lrab blew through and continued through the water jugs. I’ll see if I can find the post

Hard to pick a bad one. The 142 Nosler looks pretty danged tough.

I saw a midsized mule deer buck stop a pair of 147s out of a 6.5 PRC this year, and a small mule deer buck stop one out of two 143s via. 260... all the recovered bullets looked pretty similar to the ones you shot into the jugs. The 127 LRX, in the other hand, instantly wrecked everything it touched this fall... including coyotes, elk, deer, and antelope... we’ve still yet to catch one in a critter.

Given your results for the ELD-X and LRAB (https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/12896610/1), I think I'll stick to the LRAB.

Worked up a 2910fps 150g load for Daughter #1's .270 Win and am interested n the 142g for my 6.5-06AI.

What is important to remember with these tests, is that the bullet is performing this well under point blank testing. Very rarely is someone going to shoot an animal at that close range. Used at more regular hunting ranges, those bullets-and others-perform very admirably. I have been totally satisfied with the performance of the 147 ELDM on deer and antelope at varying ranges out to 405 yards.

Heavy bones can make any bullets do weird things, from time to time. These tests are definitely interesting and can give a bit of confidence to those who use these bullets.

Saving some jugs now to test out back with the 140 vld. I am guessing it will do 3 jugs, but it just flat works on critters. But that said, I am curious about how it will do and will post in a bit once I accumulate some jugs.

I'm shooting the 142ABLR over 48gr rl26 at a 2775 out of my 24" bbl 6.5cm and like hearing good things about it. Yes, this hobby keeps my mind busy and at 69 that's a good thing. Hope to do many more years.

I got a box of 139 Scenars yesterday. I know we all know how they work, but it might be cool to compare in the jugs.

Also have a box of 220 Scenars for my 300 RUM. I’m pretty anxious to try those.

I’ve still got the 195 Berger’s as well. Those may be another great jug test as well...

I'd be curious on them as well. Shot a few things with them at long range and they all died but not sure how they would do up close or at high impact speeds. Going back to 180 Scenars this year for the 7mm Remington.

That's one I always forget to grab and I should. From all accounts it is a beast and I'd bet my current load using the 175 BBC's and Woodleighs wouldn't be too far off the mark either.

Speaking of the 338 gunner, I had scotty test some of the 225gr. Hornady SP interlocks a couple years ago. They didn't hold up very well. When I go through the 100 I have left, I'm going to be switching to a 210 partition, I think for an all around good projectile. Guys around here use them in their 338's for elk all the time. Speeds at 3,000+ fps and a good controlled expansion bullet works very well...

I'm interested to see how the scenars hold up..

That's what I've been thinking when I switch my old twister corkscrew barreled 300 win mag over to the 210gr LRAB's, hope they hold up.

That'll work buddy, my 22" barreled NH M-70 338 settled on the 250gr partitions at 2720 fps at 3.330" the 26" barreled Kimber SA likes the load too, and fires it at 2805 with equal accuracy, i'll take that all day long, either load will still be packing 2000 fps at 500 yards up on an 8500' elk mountain, plenty good enough for this flatlander!

Yep, sounds like you found a good load for those rifles. I always like it when 2 rifles like the same load. It's a good day when that happens..

You bet Buddy, especially when you're messing with 300 damn sticks of brass . makes it easy, load, zero, check zero, then go hunting.
