56g of R-19 gets me 2989 (avg.) fps out of my Sako AV .280 with 0.5"-0.75" groups depending on me. 57g of R-19 got me 3052 (avg.) fps but the groups opened up to over 1.0"
I've been playing with a heavier bullet in my .280 with elk in mind. Seems my rifle likes the 160 gr. old two core Speer Grand Slams. With a max load of long gone Winchester Magnum Rifle powder (WMR), Winchester brass and WLR primer 2900 FPS + with groups in the .75" to .85" range are easily doable. Should work just fine on an elk if I can book a hunt. Paul B.

55gr of Rl-19 with the 140AB is where it is at for my 280 and two others that belong to friends. Doesn't quite get to 3000fps but shoots tiny little groups.
Winchester Model 70 SG 24" 1:10 160g Trophy Bonded Tipped 61 grains of Reloder 26 in Winchester Brass with Magnum Primer 2900 FPS at 1000 feet above sea level and 37 degrees F
Looking for 3000fps with a 140 Nosler Accubond and 3150fps with a 120 Nosler BT
You'd do well,to look for something that don't suck that much ass.
Hint................
Translation:
If it is a bullet that can be stabilized in a 1 in 6 twist or slower, it is a bullet far to inferior for the likes of myself. I need all the BC I can get to compensate for my many lacking areas and ghetto peashooters.
In my Ruger M77 .280 Rem with 22" bbl, 57gns RL19 and 140gn Accubond produced 2925fps. Other good performers which gave very similar velocity were RL22 and IMR4831.
