Has anyboby used Rel 16 or 26 in the 7x57. Have both and was wondering if anyone had tried them. Rel 26 has been awesome with heavies in the 270 win.
Wondering if it would wake the old girl up with 160+ grains bullets.

Thanks
Keenan

Any powder that will work in a 7mm-08 will also work in a 7x57. And if you have a modern action then you can load the old 7x57 a bit heavier than the 7mm-08, as it holds about 3 grains (about 5%) more powder than the 7-08. As far as RL-26 I would have thought the capacity
is bit is too low for a powder that slow. The again I've never tried it, and in pondering your question I found this:

So I guess it can work. as long as your comfortable living in the 60K + PSI range in a 7x57.

Slowest I've tried in the 7x57 is RL22. Works well with 175's (flings them to 2500fps out of a 22" tube) but not tried it with anything lighter.

3031 will give you faster MV with 175 grainers in a 7 mm Mauser.... 2650 fps in my Ruger 77 and # 1.

It seems like I remember you posting about that before. I remember thinking that sounds way too fast/hot on all fronts, but would you care to elaborate again?

I'm running 175 Hdy. RN's and shoot them sparingly. I've also tried '22 with 175 GameKings, but they don't seem to group all that great. Prolly consolidate with 175 Interlocks the next time I need bullets.

I keep a couple pounds of 3031 around for my .45-70, so I'm all ears!

Speer's latest manual, #15, only lists RL-26 with 175-grain bullets in the 7x57--but that's at the top of the velocity list with 175's. And Speer's data is pressure-tested at the low SAAMI maximum average pressure of 51,000 PSI--not worked up a handloader according to "pressure signs," which have been demonstrated to not usually appear until around 70,000 PSI.

With bulllets lighter than 175 grains, RL-16 is among the powders producing the highest velocity, which makes sense, as it's a little faster burning than IMR/H4350..
Alliant lists data for the 7mm08 and RL16
