Where has all the Varget gone????????
Makes a guy think about trying some IMR-4166 . . .
Marketed to compete directly with Vargay

Thank you sir, i cannot find Varget anywhere and two shops told me that they were told early next year!
This isn't 100% accurate as IMR is marketed, by the same company as Hodgdon. They're 2 very similar powders sources from 2 different manufacturers.
There's plenty of Varget in my area!! Every store that Ive been in has many pounds!
Zero in South West Pa, Zero on Midway!

Powder Valley be your Huckleberry for 8 # Vargay. Personally I would go with the IMR. My experience with Vargay is that it sucks the big stiffy.
RL-15 makes an excellent sub for Varget.
Tried both Varget and RL-15 in .257 Roberts and .35 Whelen, neither performed better than powders I was previously using.
Am I the only one who pronounces it like it’s French? Vər jeɪ

. . . and you prolly load Vargay in a .270 !!!

yes
Yup.
Named for:
Var = varmint
get = target
Works well in 7-08
That’s only for Hodgdon. The Aussies where it’s made by ADI it’s called AR2208.
A lot of the Varget is in my reloading room. It's one of my favorite powders and sketchy availability had me doing some hoarding over the last few years, something that I don't regret one bit.
I love it for the temperature stability, RL-15 not so much for the lack of the same attribute. A better option I've found than RL-15 as a substitute for Varget is AR-comp, I use a lot of it in my 22-250's on the prairie dog fields. I tried some IMR-4166 but the only thing I could see that it did better than Varget was lighten my wallet by about $8 more a pound.
For the rounds it's well suited for you usually will be hard pressed to find something to best Varget. If you can't find an accurate load with Varget then you've usually got other problems.
I can get 8# jugs up here. I never really warmed up to Varget. maybe it was just the lot that I had gotten. It was accurate enough, but no better than the usual replacements, and I couldn't get the velocity out of it that the manuals said it was capable of. I have plenty of H/IMR4895, IMR4064, and RL15, so there's no real reason to go try it again.
Varget is one of my favorite powders, i like to keep 5+ pounds on hand just in case it gets hard to find.....right now in my area there is no shortage of Varget 👍.....Hb
“Works well in 7mm-08” quote
I’m finding it to work well in the 6.5 Creedmoor also. At least with some bullets. I need to buy some more too!
IMR4320 nearly the same as Varget ...
Just WAY Better metering
Yup
I find that I use it more every year.......
9.3x62 and 22-250s.......it works very well and handles our temperature extremes.
Another favorite is the newer RL16.....
Those two cover a lot of bases for me.
Thanks for the advice everyone!!
