I have a 243 win set to arrive tommorow and was curious what guys liked in the heavier offerings. This rifle will mostly be a play toy but will see use for coyotes and maybe a deer.

I had a 1:9 twist years ago that loved the 90 accubond but the incoming rifle has a 22” 1:7.5 proof so I would like to try a heavier bullet between 103-108gr.

Currently debating between the 105 hpbt and the 108 eld-m with either h1000 or R26 though I could be swayed to try other combinations.

Any advice on loads is appreciated.
I shoot 105 HPBTs through my 243 Ackley with H1000 powder...it has been very effective on antelope.

105 Berger hybrids. 41 grains of H 4350 right at 3000fps. This bullet is very accurate , and is very good on game. I have shot a lot of critters with it from coyotes and wolves to deer. Great performance, and a great long distance bullet. Also the hybrid is not nearly as sensitive to seating depth as other Berger bullets so it is easier to load.
RL17 and 105 bthp work well for me. I load them in batches of 500.
I use the old long cut H4831 and 100 grain Partitions. The reason for the old powder is that it's density is just right to fill the case at maximum load. A slight variation on that approach might work for the bullets you want to use.

is that a custom barrel Mallard or a factory offering..... I've been wanting to try a 1 in 7 twist barrel for one of the 243s...
I have a Pac Nor on a 6mm Rem with one.... I shoot berger 115 grain Match bullets out of it, using RL 19, which seemed to perform the best out of that rifle...

105 hpbt and H1000 from my 243 has been the real deal

The barrel is a carbon fiber Proof Research light sendero 1:7.5

How much h1000 are you using and what kind of accuracy and velocity are you seeing from it?

I use IMR7828 with 90gr BT's in mine for the exact same reason. It only loses 20fps down to 30 degree temps too.

46.2grs, velocity is 2900 from a 24” barrel, accuracy is repeatable 5 shot groups from .4-.7” at 100yds, 10 shots will go into 1” or slightly less.

Remington 700 factory barrel bedded into a B&C Ti stock

6” plate over and over at 620yds with a 3-9 Leupold mark ar. 12” plate at 800yds but I’m not a good enough shot at that range to evaluate anything.

I don’t have a 243 so keep that in mind but I do have a 6mm creedmoor with a 7 twist. In my rifle 105 Berger hybrids in front of H4350 is the bees knees. The 105 hybrid would be where I started. I use a whole lot of Hornady bullets but I’ll say that I’ve never once had a rifle that wouldn’t shoot Bergers into tighter groups after proper load workup.
Horn 105 HPBT and work up to 41.5 gr of 4350 in Lapua brass.
For flat out accuracy I have not found anything better than the Sierra 107gr SMK. With RL22 or H1000, Lapua brass
