What's your favorite loads for 280 Rem out of a 22 inch barrel? What would be the best performing powder for a 140 gr bullet for that length barrel?

I have excellent results with IMR4350 and 140s out of a 22" Mtn. Rifle.
IMR 4350 and 140 accu bond and 150 b. tips
In terms of velocity, IMR4831, RL19 and RL22 are what worked best in my Ruger M77.280Rem.
Lucas1,
I have several loads I have worked up for my 22 in. barrelled .280, all which have proven to be very accurate:
1. 55.0 gr. of IMR 4350, Barnes 140 gr. TSX, MV 3050 fps
2. 56.5 gr. RL19, Barnes 140 gr. TTSX, MV 3050 fps
3. 60.1 gr. RL26, Hornady 150 gr. ELD-X, MV 3020 fps.
None of these loads show any signs of pressure, all are sub-MOA on a consistent basis. Best accuracy with the Barnes bullets has been obtained by seating on the front bullet groove, the ELD-X shoots best at .10" off the lands.
Just used up my last supply of RL26, which in my area is RLUnobtanium at the present time.
Rl-19 for bullets 140 gr & less; RL-22 for bullets over 140. But for 120's, RL-15 is worth a look too.
Never don't work.

IMR 4831, RL19 and 22. 140’s to 160’s. Everything from deer to moose.
I like Re26 behind a 150 Partition. Easily gets me 3000 fps and very good accuracy.

This. Mine and several of my buddies rifles all like this combo.
My 280 is a M77 MarkII with a 22 inch barrel. No matter the bullet/powder combo, accuracy seems to go to hell if I get much above 2800fps with 140s. I've decided to stick with my 7mm-08 for 140s at 2815fps. I'm trying the 120NBT this year in the 280. I can get 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 3150fps. Rifles are different. This one likes the 120s run hard, and 140s run mild.
TATEAW, just curious as to whether you've tried 160s in it.
Odd you mention this. I was talking 280 with M1Garand and he mentioned his 80’s vintage Mountain Rifle liked 150’s and heavier. Said anything lighter was a PITA to get to shoot well. Mine is an Abolt with a BOSS so I can get anything to shoot fairly easy. I’ve heard others state that their 280 tended to like 150’s and heavier bullets. Must be a 280 thing.
H4831 worked wonders in mine. I was struggling with other powders when Mule Deer sent me over a recipe. Have not looked back since.
anyone of you have the newer version of the Remington 700 MTN rifle in 280 rem?

Curious on this as well. That is a nice rifle - if QA/QC is good.

Send the recipe. Thanks...
Kinda curious about the recipe also.
It seems to me that JB has recommended 58.5 of H4831 under a 150 Partition in Gack. That load has worked for me, too.

I got one of these in Sep 2018. QC seems to be good. It is accurate with 150 NBT over RL23 and 210M. I would post a pic of my latest target but I have lost that capability somehow.
I have a Ruger 77 tang safety that's been in the safe unused since the late 1990s. Then I always used IMR 4350 and 160 Partitions for around 2800 FPS. This thread and a couple of others got me to wondering as to how it would perform with different powders so I started working up a load with IMR 7828 and was really surprised as to how good it worked. I had about half a box of 162 SST bullets so started with those and topped out at 57.6 grains of powder and 2920 FPS. I was working up to a Quick Load max of 58.6 grains but at that level the case head expanded .0001 inch so the load was backed off 1 grain and that was max. Also 3 shots went into a 11/16 inch group. Anyway that experiment with the different powder was a big surprise. Regards
I’ve heard good things as of late. Seems QC is improving and the Mountain Rifle gets more attention than the Wal-Mart spec 700. I’m going to order one when I get a little ahead of things.
I had best luck with IMR4831 and R17.

That's the exact same combo I'm loading at the moment. It's doing 2929 fps.

RinB, what's the best recipe using RL17? Thanks Daniel
I've only worked with the Speer 160 gr. Grand Slam bullet in my .280. Started out with IMR7828 but while I got the speed accuracy sucked big time. I have some of Winchester's long discontinued WMR and in Winchester nickel brass, WLR primer. 57.8 gr. of WMR gave 2908 FPS and .75" groups on average. I'm lucky enough to have a good supply of WMR as I use it in my .270 Win. and .300 Win. Mag. as well with excellent results. The only cartridge it doesn't work worth spit in so far is the 30-06. Even Winchester's data booklet #15 only shows data for 200 and 220 gr. bullets and the specs shown are miserable. No matter I have other powders that work in the 06.

My Browning A-Bolt 280 is partial to 58 grs of IMR 7828 and 154 gr SST's. It also shoot's the 150 NBT really well with this same load! I use the 140 class bullets in my 7-08 for the most part...
IMR 4831 and 160 partitions.
